Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael G. Davis.
Michael graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked briefly for ChevronPhillips Chemical Company, ExxonMobil Refining and Supply, and ConocoPhillips Petroleum Companies in an engineering capacity. He became a licensed real estate salesperson, licensed mortgage originator, and later became a licensed real estate broker. He formerly founded the Real Estate Office of Michael G. Davis with Realty Associates.
In 2008, he co-founded Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC and currently serves as President. Under his leadership the firm has grown from a company of 2 individuals to upwards of 50+ licensed salespeople and staff. Through multiple endeavors Michael G. Davis has participated in multiple hundreds of real estate transactions and been involved in over $70,000,000.00 worth of real estate sales volume.
As a part of Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC Mr. Davis has received the Real Estate Sale Specialist(RESS) designation from the S.U.R.E. Results training program, Certified Short Sale Negotiator(CSSN) designation, Certified Probate Real Estate Salesperson(CPRES) designation and Certified Distressed Property Expert(CDPE) designation. He has taken advanced real estate investment courses through James Smith Seminars as well as AAREI and a member of the Realty Investment Club of Houston (RICH). Mr. Davis is involved in several other organizations such as the Houston, Texas, and National Associations of Realtors. He served as a Board member and membership chairmen for the Houston Black Real Estate Association (HBREA) and is a member of the Political Action Committee for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). He also holds other positions such as Christian Education Superintendent with the Church at Bethel’s Family; fundraising chair of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Alpha Sigma Sigma graduate chapter; Parliamentarian & President of Lockhart Elementary PTO; committee member of the Houston Independent School District(HISD) Bond Oversight Committee; and a Corporate Sponsor of the Association of the United States Army (Houston Sub Chapter). Mr. Davis is very active in the community and volunteers with Real Men Read and Principal for a Day which are associated with Houston Independent School District(HISD).
Michael also has past affiliations with a 501 c (3) non-profit organization which was known as The Excel Team Business Initiative. He was a Co-founder and served as Chairman and Executive Vice-President. This organization, formerly known as The Excel Group, focused on helping businesses realize their maximum potential by equipping them with the necessary tools to be successful in today’s market. It was flag shipped by their Bi-Annual Small Business Conference held in the fall. This organization also focused on helping high school students nourish their leadership potential through a 9-month high school program called the Future African American Leaders.

Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC was founded in 2008 by Larry W. Brooks and Michael G. Davis. In 2018, the Firm will celebrate 10 years as an African-American Real Estate Company committed to creating a greater experience for every stake holder in the real estate business.
In 2009, just a year after its development, the office space of Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC was severely impacted by Hurricane Ike, causing damages to the roof, computers, company files and office furniture. With very little left to salvage, Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC temporarily worked out of crates and continued in their commitment to helping individuals and families in the community with their real estate needs.
As the real estate market began to shift post-Hurricane Ike, Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC began implementing new processes and systems for how they would operate and revive the Firm. Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC noticed a great need to help home owners prevent foreclosures and as a result, began working closely with banks and soon specialized in short sale transactions. After much success with short sales, the Firm later ventured into commercial and residential real estate.
The company soon began to thrive and felt a great responsibility to become more involved in the community and industry. With a desire to increase African-American home ownership, Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, LLC began hosting weekly pre-home buyer sessions in the community. Additionally, the two owners remain actively engaged in organizations such as the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Houston Black Real Estate Association (Board of Directors), HISD Bond Oversight Committee, HISD Real Men Read (Mentor) and Association of the United States Army (Corporate Sponsor, Houston Chapter).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2007 due to the beginnings of the Great Recession my revenue in real estate was cut in half and things did not rebound until 2012. In 2007 I was locked out of my office space due to non-payment of rent & my car was repossessed
In 2007 experienced a foreclosure due to a bad real estate investment deal and an incompetent and untrustworthy contractor. After Brooks & Davis was founded; in 2010 due to lack of revenue we had to lay-off our entire staff. In 2015 we started the Brooks & Davis Tax Firm (I was a partner) and after 3 years of under-performance and operating at a loss we closed its doors in April of 2017

In addition to being President of Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm I facilitate the company’s current training protocol which involves a weekly video-based company & training session for our licensed sales professionals called Create Your New Life. I am the main coach for our 15-month licensed salesperson coaching & developmental program called the Agent Development Institute.
Our sales professionals have access to a web-based library of processes, protocols, & resources called the 7Training Folder. We have a real estate school called the Continuing Education Institute that we are launching April of 2018.
We have our Realtor Recruitment Rally which allows our salespersons to get compensated when they recruit other salespersons to our company. We have our Inexpensive New Build(I.N.B.) Project which focus on building homes under $160,000 since there is a major need for affordable housing within our Metroplex. We have our BDREF 15% -Time Organizational Policy where our employees and salesperson are encouraged to use 15% of their time to develop some new industry related passion project of their own choosing or of their own creation or fix something they see that’s broken whether within BDREF or in the real estate industry.
We have a digital lead distribution system that our salespersons can utilize. As we distribute real estate leads that the company generates throughout the organization. We have our Superstar Affiliate program where we partner with real estate licensing schools and offer mentor-ship for students who are in the process of getting licensed along with support and access to our company resources.
We host 3 times per week our Pre-Home Buyer Sessions where we educate consumers concerning the home buying process, field all sorts of questions that consumers have, and expose people to the Financial Home Ownership First Program(our solution for individuals with credit & debt challenges preventing them from purchasing a home).
We have our Financial Home Ownership First program which assists individuals with credit & debt challenges which are preventing them from purchasing a home and offers support, motivation, encouragement, and guidance as they work towards homeownership.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When my wife, Laquana Davis, was able to quit her job and become one of our licensed salesperson full-time. She was one of the first agents that I coached.
