Meet Michael Levine of Village Woodworks in Livingston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Levine.

Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the woodworking industry back in 1981 as a woodworking apprentice in an architectural millwork company that had been around since the late 1800’s. I was the first of the ‘new’ generation. The ‘old timers’, (missing fingers and all), taught me the old ways of woodworking. As time went on I was able to incorporate the old with the new (a real blessing). I made my way thru the industry working for various millwork companies around the United States, in various aspects of the industry. My favorite aspect and forte’ became working with different moulders and the arts of profile knife grinding. This really was satisfying for me because of the creativity involved. I even have an interior cased molding that I designed and it was named after me. “The m-l mould’. So after learning all the different aspects of the trade and working for other millwork company’s along the way. I was finally able to start my own little woodwork company here in Livingston, Texas. A small residential woodshop but with big potential. I strive to offer a full service turnaround on architectural millwork of all kinds but cabinetry is the main focus. I like the creativity involved in being able to offer various styles of cabinet doors.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road so far with only a few hiccups along the way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Village Woodworks – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I recently designed a website focusing on what I primarily do here which is replacement cabinet doors. The niche that I am attempting to cover is the fact that not everyone needs new cabinet boxes so to speak. Most times the cabinet boxes are still in good shape and don’t necessarily need replacing, but the homeowner wants a new look. So we add a new more modern style door and drawer fronts combined with updated hardware and the result is a new looking kitchen. What sets me apart from others in the industry is the fact that I offer a full service turnaround i.e. manufacture, finish, delivery and installation as a package deal.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am a southern boy. Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. So I like this area because it is what I know best. I did alot of traveling around in my career but always seemed to come back to this area.

    Character reference.
Mike drove me to The Woodlands for chemotherapy, wouldn’t accept money, cut my grass when I couldn’t, shared the bounty from his garden, and blessed me with prayers.
    Best neighbor ever.
