Meet Michael Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lewis.

Hi Michael, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My success in the Mortgage Industry is a product of personal layers of my life. The layers of my life contribute to personal characteristics and traits. These layers push me to succeed and grow in the world of mortgage and finance. God, family, integrity, empathy, professionalism, and tenacity are layers that I live by and provide inspiration to help others. I spent a small part of my life with my grandparents in Bastrop, La. Their life was symbolic of positive values, morals and doing what is right amid tribulations. They have opened their doors and helped anyone that was in need.

A layer in my life included my upbringing and personal experiences in Missouri City, Tx. There was a cultural, social and economic diversity in the community which afforded me the opportunity to gain an understanding of different people and various socioeconomic status. I also had great Parents that constantly reinforced giving your Best and always being impactful in the right way for the right reasons!

Another layer in my life was my attendance at a Historically Black College (HBCU), Prairie View A& M University. This institution put everything together from personal experiences and belief systems. I found my strength in public speaking and economics. It solidified the importance of education, cultural pride and strength during adversity. I learned to always perform at your best, to live by your values and always walk like a Panther. Prairie View also opened my eyes to the Socio-Economic disparity in minority communities. It reinforced a need and identified a purpose in resolving the Wealth gap!

The layers and personal experience of my life led me to my first opportunity in Mortgage Financing. The journey was not easy, as most Lenders did not accept Loan Officers with no experience. I applied to 14 companies. I was denied by 13 companies before an interview would be granted. Before the 14th company could deny me an opportunity, I visited their office and waited until someone would speak with me. My strength has always been my communication skills. This company gave me a chance and hired me as a Loan Officer on a 6-month probationary period. I was very excited. The job was commission only, but i was ready for the challenge. I was aggressive, and passed out flyers/cards to Barbershops, retail stores, clubs and restaurants. I visited at least 5 real estate offices a day. In the end, it all paid off! In my first three months, I became a top producer. I initially set a goal of assisting 1000 families 15 years ago, and my employer did not take my goal seriously. To date, I have been in the business for over 15 years and assisted over 1300 families in Home Ownership.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The business of Mortgage financing is not always a smooth road. It is forever changing, and social, economic, political or societal issues will impact the business. In Texas, we have many weather events (hurricanes, flooding,) that affect the mortgage industry and jobs. We also were affected by political events. This industry keeps you evolving and living with a purpose! In 2008, we were hit with the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression. This event was catastrophic for the financial industry for several years. Nevertheless, there is always a great feeling of success and resilience in assisting families amid adversity.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known as “The Mortgage Guy with the Bow tie”)! I am a Branch Manager with Nations Reliable Lending! I Manage a Team of Mortgage Professionals at my local Sugar land office. We provide Finance options and Mortgage loans to a range of Home loan applicants within the State of Texas! I originated over $150 million in loan volume resulting in over 1300 financed Homeowners! As a leader in the Mortgage finance industry, I have received Top producer for several years! We are known for Educating Home Owners and assuring they are provided the Best and fairest finance options! My Team sets us apart! Is so impactful to have a Team that makes sure that Communication is continuous and the process is seamless and efficient! We make sure the experience has a lasting personal and warm feel! Like Family!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 has reinforced the importance of Family, Health and continuing to Build Wealth! It is so important these days to be prepared!
