Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael, Raquel, and Susan McCormack.
Owner Susan McCormack began her journey in the dog care realm in 2011 by opening Pearland Barkway. Then, it was a small groom shop with a small storefront on Pearland Barkway. Her goal was to provide a loving space for pets that both pet and the owner would feel comfortable staying during the grooming process. Since its conception, it has grown to include premium boarding, doggie daycare, all-natural and organic treats and foods, and the highest quality and professional grooming in the area.
After several years of positive growth and community support, Pearland Barkway had reached capacity for the services that could be offered and looked to expand to west Pearland with a bigger, more state-of-the-art facility. Focusing on what worked well with Pearland Barkway, Southern Tails began construction in early 2017 and opened in May of 2018.
Committed to the same values as Pearland Barkway, Southern Tails strives to provide pets with a safe & caring environment. Southern Tails will also offer groomer certification in the near future to further provide clients with safe, and professional groomers who have gone through the proper channels of safely caring for pets.
As the grooming industry moves towards licensure, Southern Tails is dedicating an outstanding educational facility that will certify professional groomers. The surrounding community has been very supportive as Southern Tails has partnered with surrounding schools and veterinary clinics and looks forward to expanding with the booming areas in Shadow Creek & West Pearland.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not always been smooth. With all new businesses, there are challenges that take patience to grow the business. We are committed to facing these challenges as they present themselves. Perhaps one of the hardest challenges is meeting new furry friends and having them move on or away. As we establish relationships with these pets, we adopt them as our family and goodbyes are always difficult.
Southern Tails – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a facility that tries to be a one-stop paw shop. We carry the highest quality holistic food and treats available, as well as the highest quality toys in the industry. We provide cage-free dog & cat boarding in individual a/c condos with cot and bed included in each room. We also offer doggie daycare for the energetic & social dog while their owners are away at work. We also provide the highest quality grooming & bathing services in the area.
The staff is a group of highly trained professionals, and have been in the industry collectively for over 40 years. What we feel sets us apart from other pet care facilities, is that we strive to provide a comforting, loving, and professional experience for both pet and pet-owner.
Our pets are part of the family, and we don’t want to leave them with just anyone. We aim for transparency and love to give tours of our facility to ease the mind of the owner and show how clean & safe your pet will be while they stay with Southern Tails. Whether it’s for a groom that takes an hour or two, or a week-long stay in our boarding condos, we want everyone to be stress-free.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for us must be a well-rounded attribute. It cannot be a singular accomplishment, and must always be changing and evolving as the world does.
For us, success is not only making sure that every pet we look after is offered a stress-free, loving & caring environment away from home, but also providing the highest quality of service to our clients while being able to give back to the community.
We research all the products we offer to ensure they are up to quality standards, and pass this information on to the client. We also provide up-to-date and continued training on pet handling and safety to empower our staff and ensure they are ready to face any situation that may arise.
