Meet Michael Takla of Takla Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Takla.

Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Dad always told me I would be a good lawyer- I think that was his way of saying I am always giving him a hard time.

When I was in high school, my father had a heart attack. As if that weren’t terrifying enough, his insurance company wrongfully denied coverage for his medical treatment. I am an immigrant here, my parents are immigrants. At the time we thought that insurance companies are supposed to do right by their insured. We were wrong.

I was just a junior in high school, but I knew something about that wasn’t right. My brother and I started digging, researching, making calls, doing everything we could to hold that insurance company accountable. In addition to attending high school, applying for colleges, and working a job at Academy Sports & Outdoors to help the family.

Eventually, after weeks of relentless effort, we got them to pay the claim. It covered more than six figures in medical bills. That moment changed me forever. I realized just how stacked the system is against ordinary people and how powerful it can be to know the rules and fight back.

That’s when I knew: I wanted to become a lawyer.

I went on to graduate magna cum laude from Texas A&M University.

From there, I went on to earn my law degree at the University of Houston Law Center. Unlike many of my peers, my law school experience wasn’t a traditional one. Ideally, those three years should be fully devoted to studying without outside distractions but financially, that wasn’t an option for me. During my second year, I started working as a law clerk, putting in over 30 hours a week at a firm while attending law school full-time. My schedule was relentless 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. days became my norm. It was demanding, but it taught me discipline, endurance, and how to thrive under pressure

Trial by Fire

Once I passed the bar, I jumped straight into the fire working for some of the top personal injury firms in Texas. I wasn’t just pushing papers. I was litigating catastrophic injury cases, 18-wheeler crashes, wrongful death, medical malpractice, product liability, and more.

I’ve been fortunate to help secure multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements for clients who were up against powerful corporations and insurers. I’ve seen how hard this fight can be but also how rewarding it is when you win for someone who really needs it.

Starting Takla Law

Eventually, I realized I could do more on my own terms so I started my own firm: Takla Law. My goal wasn’t just to build a business. I wanted to create a place where injured people get a real shot, where clients know their lawyer is personally involved, and where we’re willing to go to trial when others would settle.

I’ve also hosted the podcast “Bad Law Worse Facts”, where we talk candidly about the realities of practicing law especially as young trial lawyers. No fluff, no filters just war stories and hard lessons.

Why I Do This

What drives me every day is simple: I’ve been on the other side. I’ve seen a loved one suffer while a billion-dollar company tried to deny responsibility. I’ve seen families devastated by someone else’s negligence.

That fire I felt back in high school when I fought for my dad is still there. Today, I just have better tools and a louder voice. I use both to stand up for people who need someone in their corner.

We all need to bet on ourselves- there are opportunities out there and when you start betting on yourself, others will want to help you succeed. Behind every success in my story was at least one helping hand along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
People often see the verdicts and the victories—but not the grind it took to get here. My path to becoming a trial lawyer wasn’t smooth or conventional. It was built on early responsibility, financial pressure, long nights, and a refusal to quit when quitting would’ve been easier.

We’ve been impressed with Takla Law, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Whether you’ve been hurt in a car wreck, a devastating 18-wheeler crash, or a workplace accident, We step in when the system tries to push you aside. We handle every case with the mindset of a trial lawyer, not a settlement mill. That means aggressive investigation, sharp legal strategy, and a willingness to go to court if that’s what it takes to get justice.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife, dad, and brother have always been a soundboard, my loudest cheerleaders and harshest critics. They have always been brutally honest with me and always there when win or lose.

I think a close knit support group is very important. Those that you can confide in and know they have your best interest at heart.

Finally, my staff. It takes a village to build a reputable brand. It takes work day in and day out. I am blessed to have a fantastic staff.
