Meet Michelle Morris of Southern Cadence Cuisine in Independence Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Morris.

Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I found my love for cooking and entertaining later in life. I was turning 30 and had just started culinary school. While working at a corporation selling appliances, I found that a lot of our clients didn’t utilize their appliances in the most efficient way. It was the fear of the unknown. I realized that we had an untapped niche where we could support customers with their investment and show them how to make the appliance work for them and not the other way around. Thus, I pitched the idea of a corporate chef to my management team and was able to create my own career within a company that I loved. Fast forward 18 months later and I started my new role as the first corporate chef in the nation for my company. After three years in the position of corporate chef, I parted ways with the company and pursued my own business, Southern Cadence Cuisine full time.

During this time, we launched Southern Cadence Kids, a healthy chef curated lunch program for small private schools and daycares.
In the fall of 2018, we acquired our first business of many, Well Done Cooking Classes. WDCC specializes in interactive cooking classes, corporate team building, and private events.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was a risk, taking a leap of faith to be an entrepreneur. People see those glamorous Instagramable moments of being your own boss, but It takes strength, grit, support, and a whole lot of Jesus to make it happen! It is easy to rest on your laurels after hitting a goal or making a certain amount of money. The true test is asking yourself what more can you do to create a legacy for many generations to come. Your work is never done, no matter how successful you are. My husband doubles as my business partner. He keeps me motivated and always strives for success. There are times where we miss soccer games or taking our kids to birthday parties due to work. We try to make it clear that we want to create a legacy that they can be proud of.

Please tell us about Southern Cadence Cuisine.
Southern Cadence Cuisine specializes in sophisticated intimate gatherings and events, personal or private chef services, and cooking classes for our clientele.

We are not a mass production catering company. Every detail of our events and menus are crafted with the client in mind. We strive to partner with our clients to create the most memorable and personable experiences while embodying professionalism and passion.
We make every effort to locally source our ingredients. When the option for Texas raised is available, that’s our go-to! We believe cooking with the freshest ingredients available yields a superior product.

Our attention to detail exceeds our clients’ expectations each time, and we plan to keep it that way. Each event menu is customized for the customer’s needs and preferences. We take time to talk with our clients and become familiar with them before presenting a menu. You will not find a “standard” carte du jour because our goal is to be nothing of the sort.

No event is too small for Southern Cadence Cuisine. Let us plan your loved one’s birthday party, retirement, engagement, or even a bridal shower while you relax and enjoy the festivities.

Our sister company, Well Done Cooking Classes offers hands-on interactive cooking classes. Well Done Cooking Classes specializes in date night classes, and even offers culinary certificate program that has been recently recognized by the American Chef Federation.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my culinary life earlier. Perhaps worked in a restaurant or two before we had children.

Pricing:
