Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Carrying the Legacy: From My Father’s Hustle to My Own Path in Real Estate

Entrepreneurship has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a Mexican household, I watched my dad who came from Monterrey, N.L. with nothing to build to something incredible from the ground up. He opened a barbershop, then a restaurant, then another barbershop. I was there for all of it, helping with daily tasks, managing operations, and even watching him buy and run properties. He taught me what it meant to think big and expand your vision.

When I lost him at just 17, everything changed. As the oldest, I had to step up to care for my mom and younger brother. I worked multiple jobs, but deep down, I knew I was meant for something more. That fire he sparked in me didn’t go away.
What really lit the fire in me was what happened to my dad. Toward the end of his life, he sold everything, his businesses, his legacy to buy his first ranch. But he got taken advantage of and ended up losing it all. I had to step in and try to help, and I told myself: never again. I never want to see someone else get hurt in the process of building their dreams like he did. That became my why in Real Estate to never see someone go through what my father did.

I didn’t want to follow his exact path, I knew the barbershop or restaurant life wasn’t for me. But when a friend introduced me to real estate through her mom, it clicked. The potential, the flexibility, the ownership, it all made sense. Even though it’s a different industry, the mindset my dad gave me still guides me every day.

Right after high school, I enrolled in real estate school and completed everything to get licensed. I was ready, but life had other plans. I had my children and had to pause for a while, they added more of a fire in me than what I had but I’m so glad I paused for a bit since I made the best memories by their side.

At 23, I jumped back in with everything I had. It didn’t take off right away, but I stayed consistent. Each year got better, and when I finally crossed the six-figure mark, I knew the hard work was paying off. I was able to buy my own home and give my kids a stable, comfortable life.

Today, I’m proud to say I’ve built a successful real estate business, not in the same field my father chose, but with the same heart, hustle, and vision he passed down to me. I’m also happy to share that I’m now married, expecting a baby, and couldn’t be more excited to be doing all of this alongside my husband. We’re both real estate agents, running our own team—Make It Happen Real Estate Group. Perseverance has truly carried me through, and even when life threw challenges my way, I refused to give up. I’m living proof that with faith, grit, and a strong why, anything is possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Real estate hasn’t always been easy—it has its ups and downs. But during those down moments, the real you comes out. What are you going to do? I learned to move with the market, to always be teachable, and to stay open-minded. This business is tough, but the freedom it offers and the income it brings are truly amazing. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but over time, I’ve learned to embrace the hard times and use them as opportunities for growth. Every challenge has made me more determined to succeed—not just for myself, but for my family, my clients, and everyone I work with. The ability to help people make smart investments is what keeps me going and motivates me to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love Houston! The diversity here is incredible—whether it’s the wide variety of food or the vibrant cultural mix, there’s always something new to experience. The people are amazing, and you can truly learn a lot from different cultures. I’ve made so many friends here, and it’s such a great city for adventures and events.

However, one thing I do dislike is the traffic. It can be pretty intense! Be ready to plan an extra 30 minutes to an hour just to get from one part of Houston to another. But hey, that’s just part of life here!
