Meet Michelle Robertson of Shots by Mimi in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Robertson.

Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up with a father who took pictures and filmed every moment we had as a family so that he could have the memories forever. After losing my father in 2007 to cancer, the one thing I cherish the most are the photos that I have of him and all the times we shared together. This is important to so many people and I wanted to make sure people also had that opportunity. I always had a passion for taking photos, but this is one of the reasons I began to start a photography business based on capturing those moments we want to cherish forever, whether it be a family photo, business photo, or event.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, not by a long shot! Haha. I work full time in addition to my business, so it involves a lot of time management and dedication outside of work. Starting a business always starts out rough because you’re still learning the market, trends, audience, techniques, and so much more. I think one of the biggest struggles is getting your business out there in such a saturated market. You have to show what sets you apart from everyone else without even talking to them. I constantly network with other photographers to get more insight on how to establish my brand.

Shots by Mimi – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Shots by Mimi is a Houston based company that I own. My services include, but not limited to, portraits, family photos, events, businesses, and products. I capture photos in natural settings such as parks, venues, businesses, and homes. I am known for my name and how I interact with my clients. A very important part of photography is making sure your client is comfortable and enjoying the session. I’m very proud of my ability to adapt to changes and the service I provide. My personality, perspective, and skill set me apart from others. I’m not in photography to be rich, I am in it to give clients that moment they want to cherish forever. I want my client to be able to look back at the photo and remember that exact moment. Also, I don’t do your typical studio session or just point and shoot.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, personally, success is finding your purpose and living it each day!
