Today we’d like to introduce you to Mieasha Edmonds.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a single parent household. I experienced various childhood traumas. I dreamed of being a teacher as a child, partially because I had some very influential teachers and mostly because the school was an escape from my reality. I was a very shy and withdrawn child, which made me a target for predators. I had one person in my life whom I confided in and I trusted him with my vulnerability. He was my younger brother. I would ultimately lose him in a tragic car accident that changed the trajectory of my life. I survived a broken neck and paralysis.
This was a pivotal moment in my faith journey. I would go on to engage in ministry throughout my undergraduate years. I desired to be a chaplain. I was privileged with being the chaplain for Soul Lifter’s Gospel Choir at Sam Houston State University. That experience birthed the desire in me to help others. After undergraduate, I enrolled in seminary. It was during a pastoral counseling class that I had a moment of clarity and recognized counseling was what fueled my passion and left me feeling fulfilled. I began studies for both my divinity and counseling degrees.
Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest struggles have been finding the balance between helping others and prioritizing the needs of myself and my loved ones. It is beyond practicing self-care. I have also found that being in business is a competition. It is not for the unmotivated nor is it for the one who lacks ambition.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m currently working as the Clinical Director of the adolescent department at New Dimension Day Treatment Centers. I enjoy my work there with teenagers struggling with mental health and chemical dependency. When I am not there I am focusing on building my private practice True Light Counseling.
I specialize in dually diagnosed from adolescent to elderly. I enjoy meeting clients where they are and focusing on helping them uncover their solutions. I am most proud of being transparent and authentic as both a clinician and a business. I believe my passionate devotion of being a healer is what sets me apart from others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Houston is full of opportunities for new businesses and entrepreneurs.
