Migdalia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I arrived at USA in 2008 and in 2011, I started Katy Cake Supplies online store, then in 2012, I decided to open a store pretty close to the energy corridor. I used to have a similar store in my country, Venezuela. And also I have a very wide experience as a Baker. So I am selling supply, as cake boards, cake pans, boxes, cookie cutters, edibles images, etc. to my customers. But one of my strengths is the teaching area.
I love to share my knowledge and experience with others. Also, I am an artist, I have a studio in downtown Houston: 1907 Sabine Studio, # 127. I Keep very busy and the best part is that I share the knowledge in the arts to my cakes. I am attaching an invitation to an exhibition that is going to be held at Glassel Art School on Nov. 1st. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, it has involved a lot of learning, I have to get used to the American System beginning with sales, taxes, payroll, publicity, customers management, etc.
But at the end, I got used to it and now it is easier.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Katy Cake Supplies, LLC – what should we know?
My customers like to come to my store because they find the items that they need to do their baking and cake decorating and also they get very well treated as a face to face attention. They also likes my way of teaching and my decorated cakes for all occasion.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance and being updated in the new items in cake decoration. I assist to classes with very famous chef in USA and people from abroad, also I visit cake shows.
