Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Raymond.
Mike, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After working in the hospitality industry for nearly 20 years, I along with my friend Steve Long opened Reserve 101 with the goal of being a great whiskey bar. At the time, Houston was lacking a true whiskey bar and felt that it was a niche needing to be filled.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not smooth at all, we have dealt with numerous construction issues stemming from new roads and new sidewalks (twice).
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reserve 101 story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known for our whiskey collection, which has been named many times one of the best in the world. But what really sets us apart are the people that work behind our bar.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t subscribe to luck, just hard work.
