Meet Miral Shah of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miral Shah.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story sits at the intersection of operational leadership and a deep belief in genuine human connection.

Professionally, my background is in pharmacy operations, where I’ve spent years managing teams and workflows. While completing my MBA in Operational Management, I realized I wanted to channel that strategic expertise into something deeply community-focused.

The spark for **Aura Matchmaking** came from watching my own single cousins and friends struggle with modern dating apps. They were constantly dealing with digital fatigue, fake profiles, and endless ghosting. It became clear that people are more connected than ever online, but increasingly disconnected in reality. I wanted to build a business that genuinely helped them—and other singles—by moving away from the screen and creating a safe, intentional physical environment to meet organically.

That’s how my wife, Apexa, and I founded Aura Matchmaking, with the mission: *The space for real connection.*

We officially launched early this year in the Chicago suburbs, focusing heavily on structured logistics to take the anxiety out of dating. We design highly interactive mixers—using custom icebreakers and unique elements like our **’Wingman/Wingwoman’ ticketing option**, which allows non-single friends to come out and support their single friends.

Following a highly successful launch mixer in Schaumburg, Illinois, we are now expanding our reach with tailored, curated experiences for specific age demographics. We’ve grown from a personal mission to help our loved ones into a fully operational business that bridges the gap between logistical excellence and authentic human chemistry.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but the challenges we faced actually helped us refine our business model. I’d say our two biggest struggles were overcoming modern dating fatigue and managing event anxiety.

Overcoming Modern Dating Fatigue: Because so many singles have been burned by online apps—dealing with constant ghosting and fake profiles—there was initial skepticism. People were hesitant to put themselves back out there. We had to work hard to build trust and communicate that our events are a completely different, safe, and intentional environment designed for real connection.

Breaking the Ice & Event Anxiety: Walking into a room full of strangers can be incredibly intimidating. Early on, we realized that just hosting a standard mixer wasn’t enough; people would get nervous and stick to their comfort zones. To solve this, we focused heavily on structured logistics. We designed highly interactive icebreakers, like custom Human Bingo, and launched our ‘Wingman/Wingwoman’ ticketing option so singles could bring a non-single friend for moral support.

Turning those initial struggles into core features of Aura Matchmaking is what ultimately made our launch in Schaumburg so successful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I Do & What I Specialize In
“Professionally, I balance two worlds that complement each other perfectly. By day, I work in pharmacy operations management, where I specialize in structuring complex workflows, managing logistics, and leading teams in high-stakes environments. I am also the co-founder of Aura Matchmaking, an intentional, event-based matchmaking business based in the Chicago suburbs that I run alongside my wife, Apexa.

My unique specialization lies in blending operational excellence with human chemistry. I take the logistical precision required in corporate operations and apply it to the social world—creating meticulously planned, stress-free environments where singles can connect naturally.”

What I Am Known For & What Sets Me Apart
“What sets me apart from standard event hosts or traditional matchmakers is my focus on eliminating dating friction through strategic innovation.

Many people in this space just rent a venue, put singles in a room, and hope for the best. Because of my background, I focus heavily on the psychology of the environment. I am known for designing highly structured, interactive icebreaker experiences—like our custom Human Bingo—that take the guesswork and awkwardness out of mingling.

Furthermore, we pioneered a unique ‘Wingman/Wingwoman’ ticketing option. Recognizing that walking into a singles event alone causes massive anxiety, we allowed non-single friends to attend as social support. This completely transformed the energy of our events from a high-pressure interview into a fun, supportive night out.”

What I Am Most Proud Of
“I am most proud of building a business that addresses a real, modern pain point with empathy and integrity.

After watching my own single cousins and close friends face constant burnout from dating apps—dealing with endless ghosting, superficial swiping, and fake profiles—I didn’t just want to complain about the state of modern dating; I wanted to fix it for them.

Seeing our vision come to life at our successful launch mixer in Schaumburg, Illinois, and watching people interact safely, intentionally, and joyfully in real time, has been incredibly rewarding. I am incredibly proud to provide the space for real connection in a world that desperately needs it.”

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I Like Best
“What I love most about the Chicago area and its surrounding suburbs is the vibrant diversity and the deep sense of community. From a culture and lifestyle perspective, it has an incredible culinary scene, rich entertainment, and distinct neighborhoods that each have their own personality.

From a business standpoint, it is an amazing place to launch a venture like Aura Matchmaking. The people here are genuinely looking for authentic connections, and there is a thriving, supportive local ecosystem. When we hosted our launch mixer in Schaumburg, the energy from the local community was fantastic—people were warm, open-minded, and incredibly welcoming. It’s a region that truly supports local entrepreneurs and community-focused initiatives.”

What I Like Least
“If I have to pick what I like least, it’s a tie between two classic local challenges: the predictable unpredictability of the winter weather, and the traffic congestion when trying to get across town or into the city during peak hours.

However, looking at it through an operational lens, even the ‘least favorite’ aspects have a silver lining. Because traveling across the area or dealing with bad weather can make going out a hassle, it actually reinforces the value of what we do. It makes people appreciate well-organized, highly curated local events even more because they want to ensure that when they do brave the traffic or the weather, the experience is absolutely worth their time.”
