Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Valencia.
Hi Miriam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I worked towards receiving my real estate license in 2019 after my ex-husband and I couldn’t purchase a home because he was considered DACA. I am a first-generation daughter in the U.S. and have always battled with finances because of the status of my family. I didn’t want the cycle to continue so I started researching more about what we could do to purchase a home. I found so many resources and realized there weren’t many real estate agents helping people with ITIN and DACA because the process was more complicated than normal. I decided to be that person who would help. Unfortunately, we separated, and becoming a single mom gave me even more drive to keep moving forward in life and try to give my daughter the best life possible. I officially began my real estate career in 2020 and from there I’ve been beyond blessed to have been able to assist more than 100 families with their home-buying needs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Becoming a single mom as soon as I started real estate was the most difficult part of my life. There have been many times when I’ve taken my daughter to open houses, showings, and meetings. I became the sole financial provider for her and I knew I couldn’t stop. I pushed myself every day to become a better person and excel at my job. There is always the mom guilt of not spending as much time as I would like with her but I know this will pay off for both of us. Now, that I have started a team with almost 10 agents, I realized that I have to organize myself even more to truly help my team members grow in their careers, help my clients achieve their dreams, and be present for my daughter.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Miriam Valencia Properties Group or MVP Group is focused on helping new agents develop the skills needed to succeed in the real estate world. When I first started real estate, I would call so many mortgage officers, title representatives, and try to reach out to as many agents as I could to learn as much as possible. Now, I can help the new agents by giving them the knowledge and experience I have and help them grow in their own way.
As a real estate agent, I’m known as “La Realtor” because I focus on helping predominantly the Hispanic community with their home needs. I’ve gotten so many clients who often tell me stories of how other agents won’t assist them because they either speak Spanish, don’t have the proper documentation, or have been scammed before. My goal is always to be as honest and transparent as possible with them so they know I really do care about helping them.
I’m really proud to say that I have reached top producer status with my company for the past two years. My job is to help others and I have been blessed to have achieved this by being honest and doing my best for others. My hope is to keep growing and bring a new generation of agents into my team who also care to help others and not just do it for the money.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The most important lesson I learned during Covid-19 was just to keep going. Every day I would wake up with a schedule of what I wanted to do that day and thankfully from there I was able to begin assisting others. I learned to keep trying even when I was tired and to just keep going. If I failed, at least I know I gave it my all.
