Meet Mona Parikh of Mona Knows Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Parikh.

Mona is currently one of the top 10 realtors at Keller Williams Southwest. Here is more about her story. Mona received her Undergrad at the University of Texas with Business Honors & Finance. After graduation, she worked at Enron for 2 ½ years in the Analyst Rotation Program.

She really enjoyed HR, so she decided to back to school for her master’s at Rice University from 2000-2002 with a concentration in Human Resources. Mona worked at several oil and gas companies (Shell, Dynegy, and Westlake Chemical), but was unfortunately impacted by layoffs due to downsizing and HR usually being the first to be laid off.

After being impacted by layoffs about 5 times in 12 years, in 2010, she was influenced by her father to obtain her real estate license as a back-up career. Her father was an engineer and transitioned real estate in 1983. In 2015, she was laid off once again and ended up applying at Keller Williams with Team Leader Chad St. Jean.

The beginning of her journey was enjoyable, and also very difficult when it came to getting her feet wet in the business. She basically did a 360 degree in career change from HR to Real Estate. It was not easy cold calling strangers, lead generating on the phone, and asking friends and family for referrals and business. This was very uncomfortable at first. It was six to seven months before she had her first closing.

Mona took the Ignite training that Keller Williams provided and was able to gain great knowledge and insight on how to improve herself. She did not start out as an independent agent – she began with a team for about a year before the team moved to a different location. She then worked independently as her own agent. Mona enjoys training from Keller Williams and especially the BOLD training program, Family Reunion Conference, and Mega Agent Camp.

Her persistence with constant social media engagement and posting on her YouTube channel with Mona’s One Minute Realty Tips, Mona’s Market Hussle videos, & Mona Knows Neighborhood series, and Home Walk Through Tours helped boost her network and led to her success. She went from being #23 in 2017 to #11 in 2018 out of 450 agents. Mona was recognized #1 in Marketing at her office.

In 2019, Mona is part of KWSW Agent Leadership Council (ALC) to train new agents, develop ideas for the market center, and grow her business. Mona hired a Real Estate coach to help take her to the next level and plans on doubling her business by the end of 2019.

She currently has two admins working for her: one for administrative and the other for marketing. She has recently hired 2 Buyers Agents to help her grow her business to the next level. Mona received her Luxury Real Estate license in May 2019 and had recently built a Luxury Real Estate Networking Team called Houston Elite Luxury Professionals. In addition to real estate, l am also a Board for the the Asians Against Domestic Abuse (AADA) and active member of Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. I am also on the Board for the the Asians Against Domestic Abuse (AADA) and active member of Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. I speak professionally in front of various audiences on Real Estate Selling, Buying, and Investing Tips, Building Your Brand & Aggressive Marketing Strategies, and Growing Your Business to the Next Level.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When she first started, Mona struggled to make 20 contacts every day. She learned that Real Estate is a numbers game and that you need a pipeline of sellers and buyers to work with. She focused deeply on lead generation, making contacts, and networking heavily.

Now Mona aggressively lead generates to grow her business. Another challenge was hiring staff at first, finding a long-term admin, and to build the right team. There have been several lessons learned that have helped Mona grow into top producers of her office.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have taken and embraced the BOLD training sooner. I waited a year to year and a half of experience before going into training. I also would have started to focus on building my team earlier. I made some hiring mistakes early on with my admin and have now learned the correct model to hire with the Career Visioning Class at Keller Williams.
