Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique James.
Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I initially started creating balloon displays for my family. It was my daughters fifth birthday and I wanted to surprise her with something special, but on a tight budget I decided to be creative. After browsing several websites, it was brought to my attention to create something colorful and bright. Something that would pop and bring excitement to the party. Balloons, what a more exciting way to create a masterpiece that would be the focal point of the party. The theme was princess, so I created a princess wonderland out of beautiful arrays of pink balloons. The party was a hit not mention my friends and family commented on how they wanted me to enhance their child’s experience by incorporating color with balloons into their parties.
At first, it was something I would just do for fun and was too scared to post my creations. My co-workers brother told me once when I was dropping balloons off for his parents, you should do this as a business. I was totally against it at first and didn’t want to fail so I continued to keep it as a hobby. One day I finally worked up the nerve to post my balloons on Facebook and a day later, I started receiving inquiries. I got my very first paid balloon job and was it a learning experience to say the least. Since then its been a roller coaster of a journey, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be transparent it has not been an easy road. Being married and a mother of three brings a lot of challenges. Leaving home early to create beautiful canvases for my customers, can sometime create scheduling conflicts. In addition to my family life, I hold a full-time job. Having the support of my husband and family has been a tremendous help to my business. My husband is always helping me no matter. He is my go to handyman and my home depot expert. Their continued support allows me to spend the required amount of time creating these masterpieces. Also, I have learned that I am my biggest critic, I found myself doubting my abilities all the time. This journey has not always been the smoothest but an exciting one.
Please tell us about Balloon Bash.
My business is named Balloon Bash, we specialize in Organic balloon garlands, Balloom Cloumns, Centerpieces and more. I hope that my willingness to try new things with balloons has set me apart from other balloon businesses. I feel really proud when a previous customer calls and says you are my go to balloon lady.
