Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Rivera.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the owner of Hoopla! A little about myself…I am a proud mother of three beautiful girls, and have been happily married to my high school sweetheart for 12 years!
From a very young age, I’ve been infatuated with art! I would (and still) enjoy drawing, crafting, painting, photographing, sewing… anything to do with “Design”. My passion later opened doors to Computer Graphics, which I studied at The Art Institute of Houston. In 2007, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Graphic Design.
After years of working in the industry, where I had the opportunities to design everything from logos to invitations, magazines to billboards, websites to packaging design, I was challenged to take the reins for a company event called “Crawin’ for the Cure”, benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Not only was I able to apply my learned skills of Graphic Design, but also my second-nature skills of good-craftsmanship and organization. I listened to my team’s needs and provided creative solutions that not only gave their affair an identity, but helped deliver better marketing, organization, and above all attendance! This event will forever be dear to my heart, as I not only received a painted plate from a child suffering from CF but the pure joy of helping others achieve through my God-given talents.
These deep roots have become my motivation and backbone in establishing Hoopla into this powerhouse of all-things Designed! Here at Hoopla, we specialize in Event Planning, Event Decor, Graphic Design as well as Printing. From years of orchestrating Designers, Web Developers, Printers, Photographers, as well as Client time-lines and budgets, I can finally stretch my legs and apply my knowledge, resources and creative approach to take my clients’ visions to the next level!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although I truly love designing, it does take a toll on family life. Before I opened Hoopla, I worked for a marketing firm and played the role as Art Director. Having such a title comes with big responsibilities including working late, working weekends, and not having much flexibility. Having two small children at the time and a husband, it became very taxing on my family life. I came to the realization that I only got to spend 3 hours with my kids, my husband every day. I realized I had to make a change.
I decided to have their schedule and became certified to teach! I taught Graphic Design classes for three years, which allowed me (for the first time in forever) to spend time with my girls on weekends, holidays and summers! Although teaching is a rewarding job, I had a whole in my heart…I missed designing! After speaking with my husband and now three kids, looking at our finances, we made the decision to open my own business!
Hoopla has truly satisfied my heart in every aspect. I have even more time to spend with my family AND feel the upmost satisfaction of using my talents and resources in helping others bring their visions to life.

What makes us unique in our industry is that we are a one-stop-shop! All of our services are developed, designed and produced from concept to completion.
We provide Event Planning services for small and large affairs. We organize, orchestrate and elevate any occasion, allowing our client’s to be present to enjoy their special day! We are also able to style our client’s events and bring their vision to life using unique accents and festive decor. If they can dream it, we can create it!
Another service Hoopla offers is Graphic Design. We cater to individuals and companies alike. Our projects range from invitations to backdrops, from marketing materials to websites. Our designer can develop innovative and creative solutions that provide consistency, professionalism, and above all RESULTS!
Working with Graphics, it was only natural for Hoopla to provide printing services as well. We can print any size, any quantity, on any material our client’s need. We provide multiple options for both paper and promotional items, and can have them delivered straight to your door!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define “success” with happiness. Being able to find that ever elusive “balance” in one’s life is key to having success, both in the present and the future. Following your heart can never lead you astray. Taking that first step can feel uneasy, but with support and faith, doors will open!
