Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Wilkes.
Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I initially got into the insurance business in 2009. My background is in human resources and it was always something I was interested in. I was actually prodded by one of the VP’s of my company to be knowledgeable of the insurance business and to be able to communicate information about it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A few years after learning the insurance business, moving away from my corporate roots, and fully committing to getting my insurance license, my mother fell ill. My mother’s sickness became a catalyst for me to learn all I could about insurance. I did not know how motivating it would be until I saw the effects it had on my family. I wanted to be a resource for people as if I was providing assistance to a family member.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Wilkes Insurance Group – what should we know?
Our company provides resources for life and health insurance needs. We primarily focus on clients who are Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and we help them understand supplemental plans.
We strive to create strong bonds with our clients through a family-oriented approach; no client goes long without one of our agents checking in about a plan they are on, or a follow up about how well a doctor’s appointment went. Our clients are our family.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We are always learning. Every person with our company realizes the importance of continually educating ourselves with the healthcare information we need to be effective resources for both our clients and our healthcare community.
