Meet Morgan Honeycutt of Magnolia Heritage Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Honeycutt.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I used to work in the public school system and I obtained my Master’s in Educational Leadership while teaching. Little did I know that later in my life I would be drawn to homeschooling, my own children. I wasn’t looking to create something new but upon exhausting all resources in searching locally, I simply could not find an affordable, high-quality hybrid program that was either 1) not a co-op option or 2) geared at older children.

I find that our hybrid program blends the best of both worlds for all students Pre k-8th. It allows us to truly tailor the educational experience for all children on our campus. We reap the benefits of homeschooling and have the accountability, structure and social aspects of on-campus learning.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Rarely is a successful path smooth sailing and our story is no different. Our first year we had a location, but not enough students to enroll. Our second year we had enough students interested but due to change in management had lost our location. Our third year we agreed to work on another campus and manage our own students. However, midway through the year, it was obvious that arrangement wasn’t going to be successful for us as our philosophies on education differed, so we moved spaces. We finished out that year in our current location and we are thrilled at how God worked it all out. This is our second year at our Magnolia campus and we are excited about what the future will hold for MHA serving local homeschooling families.

Please tell us about Magnolia Heritage Academy.
We are a homeschooling hybrid campus, what this means is that we are on campus Tues/Thurs from 9:00-2:15 and then we offer an elective hour (Art/Spanish) from 2:15-3:15 (this elective hour is open to any homeschooling families to join us, but space is limited). We send homework for students to complete with their parents/guardians on Wednesday and a Friday or Monday. We structure our schedule on a four day week, which always leaves the family with the three-day weekend option. We cover all core subjects on campus with certified and highly qualified teachers using varied curriculum and everything is tailored to the individual needs of the student. We not only offer a traditional two day hybrid program but we have been independently facilitating STEAM themed drop off days for any interested students. We also coordinate field trips for any homeschooling families to join. We pride ourselves on being a true support for homeschooling families of all stages!

What sets us apart from others is our approach of individualizing curriculum for the student and our priority of keeping the program a budget-friendly option for local families. We offer sibling, military and referral discounts as well.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I fondly remember reading every book I could get my hands on. It spurred in me a lifelong passion of learning.
