Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Morgan.
Morgan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Open Source started as an idea where my co-founder Hiram Trevino and myself wanted to create a platform that promoted Houston to open to new music genres. This ranges from hip-hop, rap, disco, house, Latin trap, tropical bass, etc. promoting forward global music to Houston. Thanks to our good friends at the white oak music hall and Prauper creative agency, we provide Houston a monthly live stream event that caters to the music lovers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Open source always goes through the ups and downs, but I am fortunate to have a strong, well-balanced team. The struggles rains in multiple areas from technical support to internal group issues. I try my best to live by this motto “If I can’t lose with you, I do not feel comfortable winning with you” As a starting company loses is one thing we can not avoid, but we know it is only temporary.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Open Source – what should we know?
Open Source is truly an experience from the music to live installations. As for myself, I wear quite the name tags for Open Source. I am one of the three DJ residents alongside with Hiram Trevino and 9th sage, I am a creative director for stage development, I specialize mostly in the DJ and stage development aspect.
Open Source is known for creating a special experience with our music and stage props. We usually fill our venues with loads of plants and LED light strips creating a color rainforest feel. We also collaborate with our good friend’s Input-Output to display amazing installations.
What makes Open Source different is the sense of equality, we do not promote the “VIP lifestyle” that other clubs strive for. We focus on being as transparent with our guest, example at white oak music hall the DJ’s play on ground level while the guest is free to use the stage as a dance floor! What I am most proud of is the team I have and the potential we have to make a change in Houston
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a problem solver and not dancing around the problem. I try to have a plan A, B, C and D if at all times. I am also very open-minded to ideas and problems. The power to make a decision is heavily based off of perspective to me.
