Today we’d like to introduce you to Myron Fountaine
Hi Myron , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Story Behind The Prison Dr
The Prison Dr was born out of a personal journey and a profound mission to create change. Our founder, Myron, spent 20 years in prison. During that time, he committed himself to self-reflection, growth, and a vision for the future. He vowed that when he returned home, he would dedicate his life to ensuring that others—especially our youth—would not follow the same path.
After his release, Myron’s mission began in his own community, working tirelessly to intervene with at-risk youth. He knew from experience that change starts at the root, and his vision grew into what is now a nationwide initiative. Today, The Prison Dr is the only organization in the nation that goes directly into the homes of at-risk youth, addressing their challenges head-on.
What started as a passion project has grown into a movement. Over the last decade, we’ve helped transform the lives of over 2,500 families, expanded our reach to 32 states, and garnered over 180 million views on social media, spreading awareness of the urgent need to save our children. With an 87% success rate, our approach is personal, impactful, and effective.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been deeply rewarding. Along the way, we’ve gained recognition from leaders like Dr. Alveda King, President Donald Trump, and organizations committed to making a difference. But the real reward is in the lives we’ve helped change—seeing children who were once on a path of destruction turn their lives around and families find hope again.
The Prison Dr is not just a program; it’s a mission, a calling, and a promise to raise the bar so that our youth don’t spend time behind them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to building The Prison Dr has been anything but smooth. While the mission to save at-risk youth is deeply fulfilling, it comes with its fair share of challenges.
One of the biggest hurdles we’ve faced is the sheer urgency and complexity of the situations we step into. Many of the families we work with are at their breaking point, having exhausted every other option. This creates a high-pressure environment where we must act quickly, effectively, and with compassion. It’s emotionally taxing, but knowing we’re making a difference keeps us going.
Another challenge has been breaking through societal misconceptions. It’s not always easy to convince people that change is possible for the children we work with, especially when they’ve been labeled as “lost causes.” Educating communities, securing buy-in, and shifting mindsets about at-risk youth has required persistence and unwavering belief in our mission.
Funding and resources have also been a struggle at times. We operate nationwide, and ensuring we have the staff, tools, and support to meet the growing demand for our services is a constant challenge. Thankfully, with the help of donors, sponsors, and supporters, we’ve managed to keep going and expand our reach.
On a personal level, Myron’s journey as a formerly incarcerated individual running a national program has presented unique challenges. While his story is one of redemption, he’s faced skepticism and judgment from those who struggle to see beyond his past. But Myron’s resilience and ability to turn his experience into a source of strength have been central to our success.
Despite the obstacles, every struggle has reinforced our commitment to the work we do. We’ve learned that with faith, persistence, and a dedicated team, it’s possible to overcome even the toughest challenges. And every life we save reminds us why we started this journey in the first place.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At The Prison Dr, we specialize in prison prevention and intervention for at-risk youth 501(c)3, offering a hands-on, transformative approach that no other program provides. Our work is deeply personal, as we intervene directly in the homes of children who are on a destructive path. From addressing behavioral issues to resolving family conflicts, we meet families where they are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—and guide them toward a brighter future.
What sets us apart is our innovative and immediate approach. Imagine a modern-day “Scared Straight,” but with a deeper focus on education, mentorship, and long-term impact. We don’t just talk about change—we create it in real time, with an 87% success rate. Families see results the very same day we step into their homes, and our follow-up programs ensure those changes last.
We are most proud of the lives we’ve touched and transformed. Over the past decade, we’ve impacted more than 2,500 families across 32 states, helping children of all races and backgrounds find hope, direction, and opportunity. Our reach extends beyond one-on-one interventions—our message has gone viral on social media, with over 180 million views, inspiring millions to believe in the possibility of change.
Our recognition and collaborations reflect the power of our mission. From receiving a proclamation from the City of Atlanta to being honored by Dr. Alveda King and President Donald Trump, we’ve gained the support of influential leaders who see the value in our work.
What truly sets us apart is the heart behind our mission. Myron, our founder, spent 20 years in prison and vowed to make his community better upon his release. His firsthand experience gives us an unmatched level of empathy, authenticity, and insight that resonates deeply with the youth we serve.
At The Prison Dr, we’re not just running a program—we’re leading a movement. Our mission, “Raising the bar so that our youth don’t spend time behind them,” drives everything we do, and we’re honored to continue saving lives, one child at a time.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up in the heart of Motown, surrounded by music legends like James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Dramatics, and Diana Ross. My hometown, Detroit, Michigan, was alive with the soulful sounds that defined an era, and I had the rare privilege of being immersed in it all.
My father, Eli Fountaine, is a renowned saxophonist who played on countless Motown hits, and through him, I experienced the magic of that world firsthand. Every time a Motown show came to Detroit, I was there, soaking in the electrifying performances and the behind-the-scenes camaraderie. Some of my fondest memories are from the studio with The Dramatics, where I was the only child in the room as they created their timeless hit, “In the Rain.”
One birthday stands out above all: James Brown himself gifted me a Schwinn bike. It wasn’t just a present—it was a symbol of the extraordinary life I was living as a kid surrounded by legends. That moment was unforgettable and emblematic of the warmth and generosity of the Motown family.
Those experiences didn’t just expose me to music; they taught me about dedication, artistry, and the power of community. Growing up in Motown shaped who I am today, inspiring me to strive for greatness and leave a lasting impact in everything I do.
