Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Truong.
Hi Nancy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My determination and motivation started from an early age. If you have a typical older-younger sibling relationship, you understand the dynamic. The older sibling is your biggest supporter but also your biggest bully. For me, I was the younger sibling with an older brother out on a mission to torment and tease me relentlessly. Around the time I was eight years old, I had the brilliant idea of negotiating with him. I would clean his entire room if he promised to not bother me for one full day. When he agreed we wrote up a “contract”, it was handwritten, dated, and signed by him; I was so proud of myself I even taped it to the wall next to my bed.
I cleaned his room with the utmost care and slept so soundly knowing a day of peace and quiet awaited me tomorrow. To my dismay, my brother continued with his regular antics the next morning. I pulled out the contract and showed him. to which he replied that my contract did not specify when it would be effective. In fact, the only thing it said was he would not mess with me for one day. The terms were so clearly vague and poorly thought out.
Ever since that day, I told myself that I would never again be on the losing side of a contract that I wrote myself. This ignited the flames that would lead me down my career path to be an attorney. This event showed me the importance of having clearly thought out and intentional terms when entering into an agreement with another party. To think, I could have gone down a different path if I didn’t have such a menacing older brother.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think everyone faces challenges along the way when trying to start their own business. For me, my biggest struggle so far has been trying to maintain the workload between being an attorney and a business owner. Finding employees and training them. Our business is mostly virtual, so not being able to be hands-on with training has been a small hurdle.
Also worrying about whether you’re generating enough revenue to pay those employees and making sure the business is running smoothly. All the while, still being an attorney full-time, meeting with clients, preparing for and appearing at hearings and court cases. It’s a lot to take on.
We’ve been impressed with Integrity Law Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Integrity Law Group (ILG) is an Asian and female-owned virtual firm that offers real estate, business, and estate planning legal services. If you’re looking into starting a business or already own one, ILG is here to help, from the beginning to anywhere in between. We help clients set up their business entities and provide them with asset protection and estate planning legal advice.
As an investor myself, I want to spread the wealth of knowledge because I understand the legal parts of owning a small business or investment portfolio can be daunting. I want to help my clients so they can focus more on what’s most important to them.
We pride ourselves on being communicative, honest, and trustworthy. Integrity is more than just a fluff word we throw in to get your attention. It’s something we live by. We honor the commitments we make and we hold ourselves accountable for our actions, our successes, and even our failures. We put in the hard work, show respect to everyone and stay humble.
As a younger and more tech-savvy generation, it allows us to cater to our clients more. We do have a physical office where clients are able to meet us. However, we understand that not everyone has time to meet in person or wants to sit in a stuffy office. Being a virtual firm allows us to accommodate our client’s busy schedules which makes us super convenient.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The idea that you have to be in the office to get work done is a complete farce. Our virtual office is a product of that belief. Because we can be just as productive and successful without the office and typical 9-5 hours.
