Today we’d like to introduce you to Nastassja Sassau.
Nastassja, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a niche for doing hair. My mother’s twin was a cosmetologist and I used to help assist her from time to time. I first learned to French braid when I was about 16. My cousin showed me the technique and I started practicing on my daughter and got better and better with time. I always have braided hair on the side as an extra hussle. Coming up after high school when I was waiting tables, throughout college and after graduating from nursing school and becoming a Registered Nurse, I’ve always done hair on the side. Now I braid full-time and I am perfecting my craft daily.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth ride? What is that lol? Of course, on any journey in life, it has its twists, turns, and dead ends. It was hard for me to give up a 9-5 to braid full time because the money wasn’t guaranteed. All in all, once I fully dedicated myself to my business, I watched it flourish. At the end of the day, I have never given up even when I felt like it.

My business name is Braids by Nastassja and I braid hair. As a company, I am most proud of maintaining healthy hair as well as my neatness and attention to detail. Meticulousness is one of my greatest attributes and sets me apart.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Houston is a great place for a braiding business or any business, for that matter. If you are starting, I would tell you to be consistent and don’t give up if you are a skilled business will come.
