Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Barry.
Natalie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved makeup and art. As a child, I spent a lot of time drawing, sketching and painting. I had always envisioned myself working as a professional makeup artist. I started my beauty career in retail working at the makeup counters. Shortly after that, I started working as a freelance brand ambassador for several cosmetic and beauty brands in retail stores while attending The University of Houston. After graduating college, I joined a bridal hair and makeup team as a part-time makeup artist while simultaneously, building my own private clientele, building my portfolio of print work, also collaborating with several photographers and models on a weekly basis. During this time, I decided I wanted to take my career to the next level so I enrolled in esthetics school to become a licensed esthetician.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been easy. When I enrolled in esthetics school, I attended class in the evenings while still working a full-time job during the day. After finishing esthetics school, I rented a private suite in a salon and built my clientele from scratch while still keeping a part-time job on the side until I became completely self-employed. Working long hours in my business while also balancing my personal life has been challenging, but so worth it!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a licensed esthetician, professional makeup artist and owner of Natalie Elizabeth Beauty. I specialize in beauty, print/editorial, bridal and skincare. I am known for creating natural, fresh and timeless looks. I am most proud of having my makeup and hair work published in several online and print magazines. What sets me apart is my skill set and versatility in my makeup artistry. As a licensed esthetician, I am able to provide makeup and skincare services in studio at my private suite. I also offer additional esthetic services such as: facials, full body waxing, eyelash extensions, brow shaping, and tinting to create a full beauty experience for my clients! On-location services are available as well.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is playing in my mom’s Mary Kay makeup stash and painting. I would also take her fashion magazines when she was done reading them, and just flip through the pages for hours looking at all the beautiful pictures of makeup looks on the models. I loved that!
