Meet Natasha Smith of Sweet Impact in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Smith.

Natasha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for baking, but did not consider it a career path. I went to college and earned my Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences. I worked as a Pharmacy Technician for over nine years. I would go to work and come home to bake for fun and relaxation. Friends, family, and co-workers started asking me to make things for their special occasions. After some self-reflection, I decided to follow my dreams and pursue baking as a career. As a self-taught baker, I wanted to gain professional training and expand my knowledge in the pastry field. I attended and graduated from the French Pastry School in Chicago, Illinois. There, I studied under world-renowned chefs such as Jacquy Pfeiffer, Sebastein, M.O.F, John Kraus, Joel Reno, and Patrice Caillot, to name a few. Each day I learn something new and I hope my love for baking is shown through my work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I started as a hobby baker. When I began to bake full time, I had to start thinking like a businesswoman. You have to put all of the personal feelings aside and do what is right for you as a business. I had to realize that what I had to offer is not for everyone, but there are plenty of customers who will support and appreciate the value of your work.

Please tell us about Sweet Impact.
Sweet Impact specializes in custom cookies and treats for all occasions. I am most know for decorated sugar cookies. My customers love the personalization and attention to detail that I add to their cookies. It adds that special and unique touch to their event that only they will have. I love that this outlet allows me to be creative, provide for my family, and have the flexibility to be present for my family.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I come from a large family on my dad’s side. He was one of 13 children, so I have tons of cousins! I will always cherish our Sunday dinners and holidays spent together. There is always lots of food, family, fun, and definitely laughter.
