Meet Nathian Cook of DJ Cook in South Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathian Cook.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nathian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off just trying out djing and it became something I fell in love with and didn’t wanna stop doing. I didn’t think I would progress and make money as fast as I did but I was blessed with opportunities and connections that really helped me out.

Has it been a smooth road?
This road has not been smooth at all. Dealing with people and getting them to give you a chance is very difficult. Getting them to give you a shot is hard. You have to do a lot of networking especially in my cSe with me not being from Houston. A lot of the connections normal DJs from here naturally had I didn’t have.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DJ Cook story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a full-time DJ. I create good times with my music. I DJ anything from weddings to clubs. Mostly hip-hop and r&b. The one thing about my business I’m most proud of would be where I started. I had no connection and very little help. I’ve literally built this from the ground up almost alone. Just me and God.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself opening a bar. Starting a company for young DJs or potentially working with artists. I see myself doing big things.
