Meet Naveen Tan of Nomad Photography in Missouri City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naveen Tan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Naveen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2014, shortly after we came back to Houston from Siberia, my wife got pregnant with our son. We went to a photo studio in Houston to get some family photos taken and it cost an arm and a leg! I decided from then on that in the future I would do the pictures myself and has since accumulated a lot of camera and studio equipment. As time went by, photography became a passion for me. My interest grew over time and never did fade.

In 2018, I decided to start an adventure blog. Sort of like a bucket list blog where I list out a bunch of stuff that I want to experience while I am on this planet. One of them was to start a photography service. That was the beginning of Nomad Photography.

I take pride in my work and I am extremely easy to work with. I see beauty in everyone and I am always fascinated with people and their stories. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, also that every special moment needs to be preserved and remembered. That is what I do. I tell people’s stories through my lens and I help preserve moments for a lifetime.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a photography service was easy. The harder part was to get the name out to the community. With social media these days, it made marketing the service a breeze. Almost every community has some kind of social media group which make it so much easier to communicate to potential clients.

I would like to say that support from the local Houston photographer community has been tremendous. I have met some really great folks through the photographer and modeling community in Houston. Without their support, none of this would have been possible.

My other struggle was to balance between family time, my day job and my photography. I believe I have now reached an equilibrium between the three. I cannot thank my spouse enough for her wholehearted support through this adventure.

Please tell us about Nomad Photography.
Nomad Photography specializes in portrait photography, photo essays, events and creating photographic art.

I am most proud of the stories I get to tell through my lens and the trust that others place on my hands to preserve their moments and to create their art. Being given the trust to do so is my biggest motivator and is what drives me to do the best I can.

The main thing that sets me apart is my artistic and photographic style which may be very different from a lot of other photographers. In order to properly capture a subject, one must see beauty in it. I see beauty in everyone. Everyone is beautiful in some way and I bring that beauty out in my photo shoots and capture that essence.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not have done anything differently. Every experience I have had along the way has been awesome. I truly treasure all of it. I have made mistakes for sure, but it is because of those mistakes that I am where I am today.
