Meet Nayeli Gomez of Nayeli the MUA in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nayeli Gomez.

Nayeli, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began doing makeup on myself when I was 11 years old. However, I would only wear mascara and it was EVERY SINGLE DAY. I didn’t begin doing a full face on myself until I was 15. I would watch makeup tutorials every single day since I didn’t have a job at that time. I would stay up to date with all the youtubers such Jeffree Star, NikkieTutorials, and Laura Lee. I learned all the makeup techniques through Youtube and started practicing on myself. I fell in love with it all. I wanted to start doing makeup on others so I would practice on my best friends. I didn’t begin doing makeup as a business until I was 17. It happened unexpectedly, it was prom season and this girl asked me if I could do her makeup and how much it was going to be. I told her yes and gave her a price, I was so nervous, this was my first real client!

However, it went amazing, she loved it! I posted a video of her makeup and a lot of people commented on it and said how much did I charge because they were interested in booking me for prom. I did a couple of other girls makeup that month and then opened up my makeup account on Instagram. It has been an amazing experience doing makeup on others, I love it and it is my passion. I want to keep doing it for as long as I can and keep improving to grow my business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believed I wasn’t good enough at times. I would compare my work to others and I would sort of put myself down. It’s like you can be your own worst enemy at times.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nayeli the MUA – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Houston certified makeup artist and do makeup on myself and on others for any events. I am proud how much I’ve grown in doing makeup. I got certified this year and I plan on getting my cosmetology license after college.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on getting my cosmetology license after I get my Bachelor’s which I am currently working for right now. I want to open up my own beauty salon when I have my license. I dream of having my own makeup line as well. I also want to grow my platform on social media to have a greater influence and create more connections.
