Nick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s been a long time since that first overhead operating door in 1921, but the spirit of innovation continues at The Overhead Door Company. We recently introduced a line of glass overhead doors. They feature glass panels mounted to an aluminum frame for an all-new aluminum full-view design. The result is a modern, frameless look that is perfect for high-end residential and commercial applications.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
C.G. Johnson saw the future of garage doors. He unfortunately didn’t see a future where others would confuse customers to get their business.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, the Overhead Door Company of Houston is richly flattered—to the detriment of homeowners and business owners. Overhead Door isn’t just our name, it’s our core product. It is also a name so generic that it’s copied by unscrupulous contractors masquerading as The Genuine, The Original Overhead Door Company of Houston.
It’s an all too common experience for us: a customer calls to complain. They had a bad service experience. There’s a problem with a door they think WE installed. Invariably, it turns out they were hoodwinked by another company insinuating they were The Overhead Door Company.
Overhead Door Company of Houston – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Today as part of the Miner Corporation, Overhead Door Company of Houston has grown to serve not only homeowners, but businesses of every size. From performance and safety-tested commercial and industrial overhead doors, including rolling-steel garage doors to high speed doors, we have become the go-to choice for owners and facilities managers all across Texas. As an Overhead Door Company distributor, we’re able to offer a variety of styles to meet business needs, from insulated and non-insulated doors for internal and external applications to high-performance, sectional-steel and fire-rated doors.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There hasn’t been one specific moment. It’s been the journey from Warehouse Supervisor to Service Manager and now Director of Operations. Along the way, I’ve been able to grow as a person and formed some greet relationships with co-workers and customers that I now consider my extended family. Relationships is what has made this company and myself successful.
