Meet Nick May of Mayday Dog Training in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick May.

Nick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved dogs and have grown up with them since I was a child. It wasn’t until I was about 14 years old until I trained my first dog. I barely knew my biological father who was a dog trainer about 20 hours away in Ohio. It started with some simple videos he sent me demonstrating how to train the basics to a puppy. When I was 19 years old I decided to move to Ohio and learn to train dogs more in depth and how to run a business. After about 3 and a half years it was time to move back home to Katy Texas and start my own business, Mayday Dog Training.

Has it been a smooth road?
Leaving my friends and family when moving to Ohio was difficult but my wonderful girlfriend who is now my soon to be wife went with me which made it all ok. The freezing cold winters and long hours weren’t easy. My father and I butted heads a lot. I think due to stress and spending too much time with each other after not really knowing each other that well previously. I was scared to move back and start my own business at first but it ended up being the best decision of my life so far.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mayday Dog Training – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer several types of training programs. We do both boarding and training as well as weekly lessons by appointment. We specialize in obedience training but we also do several other types of training for canines as well. Personally, the favorite part of my job is probably doing protection work with dogs that are suitable. I think what probably sets us apart from others is both our results as well as our customer service. I try to make sure and send the owners updates as well as pictures and videos during their dog’s stay with us. We also only take 4 dogs at a time for training and they stay with us at our home which the clients seem to like as well as their furry companions.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the surplus of Mexican restaurants and how many exciting things there are to do here. Traffic is probably my least favorite thing about the city.
