Meet Nikhat Jharia of The Stretch Barre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikhat Jharia.

Hi Nikhat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
While working on my Master’s Degree in Exercise and Health Sciences, I was given the opportunity to conduct research in the areas of: exercise, nutrition, rehabilitation, and stretch therapy. It was this research that led me to creating my business, The Stretch Barre.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Having never taken a course in anything business, I was very much going in blind. I knew little about starting, running, and sustaining a business, and let me tell you, nothing about that has changed. I still know very little, and am forced to constantly learn and discover new things about owning a business. My challenges ranged from forming a business, developing effective marketing strategies, obtaining and retaining clients, and more recently, filing taxes. I started The Stretch Barre in June of 2020, so it was safe to say that while I faced normal bada** businesswoman struggles, I also faced global pandemic struggles; which has only made the journey far more exciting and fun!

We’ve been impressed with The Stretch Barre, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Stretch Barre, and the techniques used, were established after intensive and thorough research in facilitated-stretching, neuromuscular training, dynamic and static stretching and physical rehabilitation. We, at The Stretch Barre, have developed a unique and customizable wellness concept that enables you, our client, to reach (pun-intended) the apex of your body’s abilities. Our services range from, but are not limited to, stretch therapy, proprioceptive therapy, TENS and percussion therapy and physical rehabilitation. Our therapists are trained in their ability to understand individual bodies and provide a therapy session that increases flexibility, range of motion, recovery and relaxation, while reducing tightness, stress, pain, imbalances in the body, and risk of injury. We can conduct these services from the comfort of your home or at Alphalete Gym, in Stafford. I take pride in our ability to deliver therapy that is backed by high quality education, research and training. Furthermore, being a local, woman, and poc-owned business, I take most pride in the success and love we’ve acquired so quickly. It is this support that acts as the force for us to do better, be better, and provide care that is of the highest quality.

How do you define success?
Success comes in various forms; monetary, growth, and support. The Stretch Barre (TSB) has had the good fortune to experience all these forms of success. Although we are still young and learning, the business has seen the most success in the form of support from our clients. Our clients are relentless supporters, our very own fan club, often working harder than TSB to market and recruit new clients. Our clients’ love and support would have to be, hands down, our greatest success story.
