Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Terry.
Nikita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My ultimate goal was to have a space full of quality product where you can find something for yourself or someone else as well. Urban Trenz started as a humble idea beginning in 2009 selling from the trunk of my car. I started with a few pieces of jewelry, handbags and a lot of hope. As my customers grew I was blessed with a storefront located inside of a hair salon in 2015. For as long as I can remember my goal was to one day own a shop that I could hang my own sign on. Many days my goal seemed unreachable, but I remained focused and kept searching until I located a building in downtown Montgomery,TX in the historical district. I must admit that I was nervous when I applied for my permit because the rules and regulations are strict in the historical district. It involved me changing my logo to accommodate but 2 months later my permit was approved in June 2019
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I must be honest it has not been easy. One of the biggest challenges of being a boutique owner is that there are many days you won’t sell anything and the bills & invoices still have to be paid. Even when these days come you have to stay focused on the vision.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Urban Trenz Boutique – what should we know?
Urban Trenz is a fashion boutique, where classic meets trendy. Simply meaning I carry classic items such as pearls and classic style handbags in all styles abd colors, as well as the latest trendy fashion items. The one thing that I’m the most proud of is simply the fact that I started the business having no idea of what I was doing. Through trial and error, I became a self-taught business owner. What sets me apart is I carry unique items and I only have one of each in stock so its highly unlikely you will see it again.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
In order to succeed, integrity is an important trait to have. When you are honest, people will believe in you, and you can take pride in knowing that you are honest with yourself and others. Not only is this just a good trait to have in general, it will help you to become more successful.
