Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Paternina.
Hi Nina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Nina Paternina, Creative Director and co-founder of Amor del Bueno Flowers, a Houston-based floral studio dedicated to creating immersive floral experiences for weddings, brand activations, and special events.
I was born in Venezuela, where my love for color, beauty, and artistic expression first began. Before flowers, my creative path started in fashion and design, which deeply shaped the way I approach florals today—always thinking about movement, texture, and emotion.
When my husband Alberto and I moved to the United States, we were starting completely from zero. During the uncertainty of the pandemic, I began experimenting with flowers from home with a small investment and a lot of faith. What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into something much bigger than we ever imagined.
Today, Amor del Bueno Flowers has become a recognized floral studio in Houston known for bold installations, Latin-inspired palettes, and designs that feel alive and emotional. My goal is never just to decorate a space, but to create moments and environments that people truly feel and remember.
Beyond the business, I’m also a wife and a mother of two daughters who inspire me every day. Building this company with my husband while raising our family has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. For me, flowers are more than design—they are a way to celebrate life, culture, and connection.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not exactly. Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Moving to the United States meant starting a new chapter in a new country, with a different culture, language, and business environment. In the beginning, everything was a learning process.
I started working with flowers during the pandemic with a very small investment and a lot of uncertainty. At first I was doing everything myself—designing, sourcing flowers, delivering orders, and learning the industry along the way. It was exciting but also very challenging.
There were moments of doubt and exhaustion, especially while building a business and raising a family at the same time. But those challenges also shaped my resilience and creativity. Over time, what started as a small idea grew into something much bigger, and those early struggles became the foundation of what Amor del Bueno is today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m especially proud of how far we’ve come in a relatively short time. What started as a small creative experiment has grown into a studio that now works on luxury weddings, corporate events, and collaborations with brands and venues across Houston. Seeing our designs become part of meaningful celebrations in people’s lives is incredibly rewarding.
At the heart of everything we do is amor. We truly believe in the meaning behind our name, Amor del Bueno—the kind of love that is genuine and intentional. Every time a client chooses us for an important moment in their lives, we never take that for granted. We see it as an honor, and we always try to give our very best in every opportunity we receive
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I truly believe that what people call “luck” is really when preparation meets opportunity. In business and in life, opportunities appear, but you have to be ready to recognize them and give your best when they come.
I feel incredibly grateful for every event and every opportunity we receive. For me, it’s also a blessing from God to be able to express my creativity and bring beauty into meaningful moments in people’s lives. Each project is a chance to grow, create, and serve others through what we do.
