Today we’d like to introduce you to Nnaemeka Nweke.
Hi Nnaemeka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Dr. Nnaemeka Nweke.
I was born in Nigeria. I am from the ìgbò tribe and specifically from Enugu State. My family and I migrated to the United States in 1998. I grew up in Dallas, Tx. I received my bachelor’s in science at the University of Houston. I received my medical degree from St. George’s University. I did my internship year at Staten Island University Hospital prior to beginning my training as a physiatrist at Baylor College of Medicine for 3 years.
“Along the way I’ve learned that every step you make forward regardless how far it gets you is a mental move that inches you closer towards eventually getting there.” @doctorsmessages
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
– partial paralysis left leg – Torn ACL right leg
– Applied to medical school 3 times
– Took the MCAT 4 times
– Matched into residency my 3rd time
– lost my father in 2016
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a physician currently in residency for physical medicine and rehab. A lot of people know me for my motivational platform “Doctorsmesage”, my cultural persona “Onye Mmemme”, and many other things. What I am most proud of is how much I’ve overcome in this journey. I can’t say what sets me apart, I will just say God has specially made me.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was initially very quiet but I overcame my shy nature and now I will say I’m very extroverted. My interest really lies in making sure people are having a fun time. I love to entertain others and motivate them to be better.
