Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Maeker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a nationally published Franchise Consultant with FranChoice, the premier group of Franchise Consultants in the country. I assist candidates all over the world who are interested in learning more about franchising by taken an education based approach and my service is free. I represent over 150 of the 3,000 franchisors and provide huge savings in time. My former corporate roles include Vice President of Franchise Sales for Papa Murphy’s Pizza and International Financial Manager for TGI Fridays. I specialize in helping candidates interested in: the E-2 immigration visa process, transitioning our exiting military vets, and working with corporate directors who have either left the corporate world or are wanting to diversify. I represent franchisors that are both brick and mortar retail and home/light industrial suite service based and that utilize either/or a hands-on/owner-operator business model or a more semi-absent/manager-run model. My wife (Christy, an Administrator with Katy ISD) and I are also proud & top performing multi-unit franchisees of 1 of the concepts that I represent, Sola Salon Studios and elders within our church.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I did my undergraduate work at The University of Texas at Austin (Management/Finance) and completed my MBA at the University of Southern California (Entrepreneurial Ventures). I spent the first 20 years of my career in the corporate world in franchising roles with industry leaders Mobil Oil, Jack in the Box, TGI Fridays and Papa Murphy’s Take-N-Bake Pizza. I have been publicly recognized for the last eight years as a top performing Franchise Consultant with FranChoice, the industry leader. I get to do on a daily basis what I learned to do in the corporate world for two decades and help my candidates at no charge. Additionally, owning our own multi-unit franchise has been an absolute blessing for both the incredible people who lease space from us (our Sola family) and us.

I specialize in helping people take an educated-based approach in determining whether the target franchisor is a great fit to what they are seeking through characteristic based matching (parallel to an E-Harmony, the same way I met my wife Christy). I am immensely proud of so many of the past candidates that I have placed in the past eight years and seeing their lives being changed for the better. I differentiate myself based on being highly candidate quality (and not quantity) focused, often being cited as the Jerry McGuire in franchise consulting based on the personal approach I take with each of my candidates.
