Today we’d like to introduce you to Orobosa Oghide.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Orobosa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story is a pretty interesting one. I was born in Nigeria and came to the United States at nine years old. I grew up in Alief, a suburb of Houston, Texas. After completing my BSN at Stephen F Austin State University in 2011, my professional career started as a registered nurse at 22 years old at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Stem Cell Transplant department. My passion to help others continued to burn fervently; which propelled me to return to school in order to further my education. I received my master’s degree as a nurse practitioner in 2014. As a family nurse practitioner, I have garnered extensive experience in fields that range from family practice, retail medicine, oncology to hormone replacement therapy and aesthetics.
After working for years to help grow one of the largest and most successful hormone replacement companies in the United States, I decided to feed my entrepreneurial spirit by venturing out on my own. In August 2017, Apollo Men’s Health was launched. Two weeks later, Hurricane Harvey forced us to close. To ensure the safety of my wife and newborn at the time, we left Pearland during the hurricane; leaving our home and new business.
Fortunately, our family, the business, and home were left unscathed. While we only saw 89 appointments that first month in 2017, the growth has been constant since. The culture we have fostered along with our supportive patients allowed us to see 1200 appointments in August of 2020.
Part of my story now includes COVID-19. As soon as the pandemic hit the united states, I left everything once again to help combat the disease and its effects. I arrived in New York late March and left early July. During my time there, I had to personally deal with contracting COVID; to the point where I was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and was coughing up blood. Fortunately, I recovered within one week and went back to work after being cleared to do so.
I have also started a scholarship with my old high school (Alief Elsik High School); which I gave our inaugural award this past school year. Part of the vision is to give back and to uplift those coming after me and I do not plan on stopping anytime soon.
Suffice to say, if there is someone in need; whether it is within the clinic or outside our walls, I will be there to aid in any way I can.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles for me are seen as lessons and are an integral part of the journey. While most of the road has been smooth, bumps and potholes have presented themselves in various ways. Most of these issues have been minimal and generally are resolved in an expeditious manner.
Apollo Men’s Health – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the owner and founder of Apollo Men’s Health. We specialize in hormone replacement and wellness therapies. I am most known for generating optimal outcomes for our patients and helping them return back to the quality of life they most desire. I understand what drives patients and customers, increases new patient conversions and that is not only how much knowledge one has but the compassion one displays for patient-care. In other words, patients do not necessarily care how much a provider knows but want to know how much the provider cares. This truly is where I feel as though I separate myself from others. This is the same passion every clinician and staff member has to have in order to work with Apollo Men’s Health.
I have continued to increase my knowledge-base, to enhance personal and professional development. I am certified to perform pellet insertions, IV hydration, Priapus shot, DOT physicals, is BLS/ACLS certified and plan to graduate December 2020 with my doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP). I am compassionate about education and pass the information to my patients and staff in order to continuously improve the quality of care.
I have successfully managed the opening of two clinics in the Houston area from inception to their grand openings. Along with handling the openings, I also implement the business growth strategies to ensure continuous growth. I still see patients on a full-time basis because of the trusting relationships fostered through interactions and the passion for clinical decision-making and great outcomes. Thankfully, Apollo Men’s Health has continued to grow each quarter under my direction and guidance. God-willing, we will continue to see such success as time goes on.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I always tell others that if my goal was to make money, there are too many ways to do so. However, my impact goes beyond financial compensation. Success for me is defined by my impact on others in various facets. When patients tell me, “you’ve changed my life,” “you saved my marriage,” “I’m here because I heard you can get me on the right track again,” I truly get emotional. I have sat in my office and cried after reading letters from patients and family members. It moves me that my vision and the way in which I treat people (clinically and socially) makes that much of a difference. That to me is success and there is no price tag that can be placed on it.
