Parvez, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started this company along with my business partner Nimroz Momin in 2010. It was a humble beginning with goals to bring affordable prescription eyeglasses to all. We firmly believe that vision is a basic human right and everyone should have access to it. We noticed that average Prescription glasses cost about $300 to $400 and that is just way too high for everyday people. This is how Marvel Optics was born, now we are the leading online prescription eyeglass company in the US.
Both my business partner and I were in corporate America and would work 9 am to 5 pm at our day jobs then meet from 5 pm to 9 pm to pursue our dream and build Marvel Optics into the best online eyeglass store. We did that for about 3 years and then finally made the full-time commitment to entrepreneurship. Now we manage portfolio of multiple online businesses through our Private Equity Company Pro Click Ventures.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were definitely a lot of struggles. I personally love challenges, I believe it is what builds your character. There is no fun in building something if you don’t have to struggle to figure it out along the way.
For us, the biggest struggle was that there was no roadmap to building an online business.
Additional struggle was setting up the supply chain for an eyeglasses business that has traditionally been a brick and mortar concept.
