Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Leith.
Patricia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1986 I saw a beautifully written envelope in calligraphic lettering and decided that I had to learn how to do it. I took classes and practiced every day. I was working as a hairdresser and would practice between clients. I built a business with my art and writing skills. I also was the president of the Houston Calligraphy Guild for two terms. During this time I attended calligraphy conventions and classes that were taught by the masters and were attended by calligraphers from all over the world. Today I own a business where I am able to do what I love, day after day. I also teach private calligraphy classes and art classes at my shop.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Calligraphy by Patricia – what should we know?
I address envelopes for weddings, private parties, corporations, showers and all special events. I design and write custom invitation and menus, do monograms, place cards and many forms of art projects. I make custom made place cards to fit the occasion or event.
Sometimes I get hired to go to a store and write on many things like cards, wine bottle etc., recently I was hired by a company to write festival attendees names at a Chinese New Year festival in downtown Houston. I also teach private calligraphy classes and another class on how to use your calligraphic skills. I teach art classes, painting borders, flowers etc…What sets me apart from others is that many times a client will bring in a small job and I will do the project while they wait. I’m proud of my company because I was able to make a business with these skills, a business that I love.
