Today we’d like to introduce you to Alecia Johnson.
Alecia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started by preparing my mother-in-law’s home to put on the market for sale. Preparing the home included updating the kitchen and bathroom, painting the entire home, changing out the flooring, and staging.
After the makeover, her girlfriend came to visit her and said, “OMG, look at this place… it looks like a new home”. Who did the work? I need their contact information. I need them to come and do some work at my home. She ended up being my first client, which was $500,000 home located in a prestige gated community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, the road has been pretty smooth. Some of the struggles, which I would call challenges is when a husband and wife have different styles, and I have to marry the two styles together while keeping in mind the overlook look I want to create for space. It’s important to create a space that everyone feels comfortable in.

I’m an Interior Designer and one-half owner of Pearl Design Interiors, and an active member of ASID. Pearl Design Interiors is an award-winning full-service luxury boutique interior design firm based in Katy, Texas.
Pearl Design Interiors specialize in creating stunning residential and commercial spaces that exceed our client’s expectations. We are known for designing custom clean-lined contemporary spaces where transition meets modern. We infuse complementary accessories in every design to create an elegant, unique, and timeless space.
As a company, we are proud that of one of our Montage Beverly Hills Projects was used by Modern Luxury Magazine for a photo shoot with Emmy nominated and Golden Globe award-winning actress Taraji P Henson. We received national publication in Modern Luxury for our design serving as the backdrop for the photoshoot.
In 2015, 2016, and 2017 Peal Design Interiors was named Top 20 African American Interior Designers in the country by the Black Interior Design Network. We were also named Top 20 Houston Interior Designer by Freashhome and Top 10 Houston Interior Designer by Decoriila.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very creative, curious, and outgoing. I was always drawing, crafting, and rearranging my mom’s furniture. At an early age I admired the interior design, fashion, and all things beautiful.
I would describe my personality as A type and a people person. I’m detail oriented and love thinking outside of the box. I’m not typical when it comes to fashion and design. I’m such a textile girl, I fell in love with textiles when my Aunt taught me how to sew at an early age.
