Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Diaz.
Pete, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
What can I say… First off, we owe everything to God! God is good all the time! It has been my passion for years wanting to be a coach/trainer and help people better their quality of life and health. Last year, was the year. With the support of my wife, I left corporate America and decided to pursue my true passion. My true role into fitness started almost 17 years ago when our first daughter was born…
Back then I was overweight and my health was not the greatest. I weighed in at 230 lbs, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, was always tired, winded and didn’t feel comfortable at all within my own skin. That year, I went in for my annual physical, and my doctor told me if I continue like this, things were going to get worse and FAST! The really struck me; being that I was not only a husband, but a new father, I had to make change happen. It was a long journey coming from a completely sedentary lifestyle, being constantly tired and stressed.
However, fast forward, I fell in love with fitness, and it literally probably saved my life. It allowed me to be 100 times more productive with everything I did, but more so to be there for my family after work, and not be tired. Over the course of the last 17 years, I changed my eating habits and lifestyle. I completed multiple half marathons, which then turned into multiple full marathons, which then turned into multiple half Ironman races, which then turned into multiple Full Ironman races.
Fitness becomes a lifestyle. I also got into powerlifting and then bodybuilding training. I have been on the endurance side of fitness as well as strength and power. My wife Alley also completed her health transformation with me. We know what it’s like to have to start from zero, Alley and I have been there and done that, and can truly relate. This was our driver in wanting to help others accomplish a better quality of life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The process was not smooth. First off, we had to build the business from the ground up. We did not franchise a fitness business, which still works, but the groundwork and roadmap are laid out. Getting income to launch and build the business was a struggle in the beginning. We re-invested almost all funds right back into the business to keep expanding. There were long days when you are the trainer, the salesperson, the marketing person, the janitor, etc etc. When we launched we operated from 5am-9pm Mon-Saturday.
On the side, believe it or not, I would Uber at night, to get more funds to re-invest into the business, and to also make some ends meet until we established a base clientele. This schedule went on for about 9 months. But again, if you are truly passionate, and willing to put in the sweat and sacrifice, good things happen. There were also many sacrifices that we had to do and scaling down as a family to make this business to what it is today. Within 1 year from July 2016 to July 2017, it was time for us to expand into our own full-blown studio right here in Cypress, TX! We built our fitness business from the ground up, no franchise or corporation. We are the owners and operators, and we have helped Cypress residents transform not only their body, but their health, fitness, and lifestyle as well.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the FSM Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
My wife Alley Diaz and I started FSM Fitness back in May of 2016. That’s when we registered the business. We went live in July of 2016, and have grown by leaps and bounds since then! Our model is exclusive semi-private and one-on-one training. We are a faith-based Fitness Studio, and our studio and model is like no other in Cypress. The difference is that we care about each member, and drive a family atmosphere. You won’t see hundreds at FSM Fitness or large groups, that’s how we drive truly personalized attention.
We are not an open gym/studio, and there are no drop in rates, or trials. The reason is each client has a true personalized training program, and there can’t be a drop in. We design a personalized program and nutrition plan for each member directly inline with their goals. There is a reason we have grown out of the home, from the ground up in a little less than a year. We are also expanding and bringing on our second trainer on Dec. 1st. When you are truly passionate about something, treat people with kindness, compassion and really look out for their well being; good things happen.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no luck. There is only hard work, consistency, commitment, motivation and faith.
