Today we’d like to introduce you to Pharon Beaver.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Pharon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been doing photography since my freshman year in high school when I was a part of the yearbook at Willowridge High. Initially, when I went off to school I had intentions of being a math teacher … but I had an epiphany one day and did a 360 in my advisors office and changed my major to communications with emphasis on Radio Television and film. Being at the illustrious Texas Southern University I had to take advantage of the renowned Martin Luther King school of communications and the many teachers that we had at our disposals to help further ourselves.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is one of the most difficult obstacles I’ve been doing to this day, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It has given me the tenacity and the go getter mentality to thrive and be great at what I see myself doing. Times are hard especially when you take a leap of faith and decide to do what you love and are good at 24/7 , no longer a hobby but a full time job . Photography is a full-time job for me, I eat sleep and breathe it. One of the main struggles I encountered was definitely the lack of support. People will tell you one thing but when time came up to put your money where your mouth is …. the room was suddenly gravely quiet. It showed me how to go about doing business and how to differentiate business from social.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is Pharoah Photography plus based out in Missouri City, Texas. We are a multimedia company who specializes in photography and videography but cover all aspects including graphic design as well. What I’m most proud of as a company is the growth from 2012 up until now … there has been nothing but tremendous improvement in the quality of my work to the actual ability of me behind a camera and editing. What sets me apart from others is my determination and my stubbornness to not let the word “NO” stifle me. I use that as motivation and a reason to come back and try again … because one thing I learned is that in any situation a no is not permanent.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a different kid . Watching anime, playing in the sandbox and being the social butterfly that I’ve always been. I never had an issue making friends because I wasn’t shy, I was the exact opposite. I started playing basketball around the third grade but it was bound to happen with my father having coaches basketball for over 20 years. That led me to be a three sport athlete (football, basketball, track), which led me to attend Texas Southern to run.
