Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Cahilog.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. By the year 2000, my family migrated to the US.
I always had a passion for arts – primarily dancing and drawing. When I moved to the US, I had to leave everything behind. I found my self looking for an outlet for myself, an expression. Back then, I would always take photos of myself using my old digital camera and add graphics using editing software.
I started taking breathtaking pictures seven years ago when I and my wife, Janette bought our first DSLR camera for our vacation in Jamaica. It’s amazing how each picture brings out a lot of retrospection. From then on, I got captivated with the joy of bringing memories back to life through the images that I’m taking. Never did I think my hobby would turn into what it is today.
Please tell us about your art.
I do Portraits and Events Photography. As a photographer, I want to be able to tell a story, the story behind the photos that I take. I want my clients to relive the moments as if it just happened yesterday. Every session is unique, but I always strive to make each session just as perfect for each client. It brings me so much joy to see the look on their faces when they see the outcome.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Nowadays, it seems that most photographers are struggling to get clients especially when they’re just starting out. Most of them are easily giving up! It’s a competition out there. You have to show the world your talent and that you are one of a kind. Don’t be discouraged with minor setbacks. Life goes on and so, do learning. You have to outshine your best self. Join groups that share the same passion and learn from each other. Share your story and accept their constructive criticisms. In that way, we all learn and cultivate what we have in hand.
