Plex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I wanted to create an outlet for young black gentlemen that have a modern take of debonair fashion. But not as a clothing designer, rather a curator of accessories that can change a whole look. So when I started distressing and bleaching individual pieces within my own closet, I tried to do the same with my wide brim fedoras. Nothing worked from bleaching to sheering. Wasn’t until I went to work and, in creative despair, set the hat on fire that a realize my vision.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Beginning the journey of Entrepreneurship always has its bumps in the road. Finding a vendor for Inventory and timely deliveries were an issue at first because I was too excited about the success about something I been passionate about. But, it all worked out.

Imperium Brims is a unique men’s accessories boutique that specializes in Customary Wide Brim Fedoras. All of our brims are completely 1 out of 1 and utilize a scorched distressed treatment to allow our brim to transition from a piece to be worn in a suit or to brunch into a piece that looks great casually. Our brims can be found all around the city of Houston from local business owners, nightlife influencers and even professional athletes.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always been an energetic, charismatic socialite that loves to be around people; strangers or friends alike. My ego was massive so everywhere I went, I wanted to be the center of attention. That’s how I got into fashion as a whole. Whenever I looked good to myself, I felt good in any environment, my loud personality got me into.
