Today we’d like to introduce you to Premier Doulas of Houston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Premier Doulas of Houston is a team of six doulas working together to support your family from fertility through the fourth trimester. We have more than 30 collective years of experience supporting families of all kinds. We all met through the doula community, have shared lots of pastries, laughs, tears, and coffee together, and some of us have even doula’d for each other! When the idea came up to start a collective to work together, we came up with our Dream Team and made it happen. While each of our paths to doulahood were different, we’re united in our belief that all families deserve to transition into parenthood with respect, support, and understanding. We know the journey into parenthood is full of questions. We’re certified doulas with modern solutions to the age-old questions new parents have always had. Our doulas are trained for fertility, from the basics of learning about tracking menstrual cycles to find your most fertile days to conceive, to helping you find new paths when science and technology are required to conceive. We’re trained as labor companions, with evidence based knowledge and skills to help you cope with labor and delivery for whatever type of birth you want. Our postpartum doulas have evidence based, safe solutions for parenting newborns. We will be there as an extra set of hands, a pair of listening ears, and a caretaker on those days and nights that blend into one another in those early months after birth and bringing the baby home.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a collective, we’re focused on growing our community of clients as well as trusted referrals for the families we work with. One of the main struggles is informing the community about the existence and importance of doulas. Doulas are for everyone. No matter what type of birth you desire, where you plan to give birth, or how many children you have, you can benefit from caring, non-judgemental support. The demand for postpartum support is very high, and our postpartum doulas can book up quickly. It is difficult for those of us who want to support families to have to say we aren’t available.

We provide fertility, birth, and postpartum support.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
We offer full spectrum support. We’re not just showing up on your baby’s birthday. A doula is your advocate and cheerleader throughout your entire pregnancy through bringing your baby home. We’ve got all of Greater Houston covered! We support births at all Houston area hospitals, birth centers, or at home with a midwife. Our postpartum doulas provide support day or night in your home. We aren’t supporting your birth and/or baby with our own agendas in mind. We are there to provide educational, emotional, and physical support. Whatever decisions you are faced with at your birth or on your new parenting journey, we are there to provide you with the information to make your own choices. Birth without pain medication? Great. Scheduled Cesarean? Of course! Breastfeeding? Fantastic. Formula feeding? Wonderful. Pass the bottle over here and let me feed this baby while you go shower. We like to say – this is all hard. We’ve got you.
