Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Boyer.
Preston, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my fashion career as a photographer & stylist in 2012, working with local and international musicians. I realized throughout the process that there is a lack of creativity and passion in the luxury clothing industry. I have made it my personal mission to fill this void by sharing my experience and telling stories through unconventional garments and innovative design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. The biggest challenge I faced was putting the first collection together and figuring out how to actually turn my ideas into reality. Each collection I get better and better at it but there is still such a learning curve every collection I create.
Preston Douglas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Preston Douglas is a luxury clothing and lifestyle brand based in Houston, Texas that draws inspiration from street wear and high-end fashion while aiming to blur the lines between the two markets. Preston comes from the meaning “priest-like” and Douglas comes from the meaning “of a dark stream”. The combination of these two words encapsulates my creative process through taking my darkness and turning it into light.
I design from a place of true emotion and vulnerability and pride myself on those two aspects. I believe coming from this place is quite unique in the marketplace and I hope that the honesty translates into the garments and collections as a whole.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was being invited to meet with the accessories director of Vogue and bringing my whole collection at that time into their offices at One World Trade Center. It was quite surreal and we had an amazing conversation.
