Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Bearden.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Over a year and a half ago, friends of ours had a four-year-old son that was diagnosed with DIPG (a horrible pediatric brain tumor with no cure). Right before he passed away, a family friend took some family pictures for them and those pictures are their most prized possession. It inspired me to start Eli’s Hope, an organization that provides free pictures for families with loved ones who have an illness that could be terminal. The problem was, I didn’t know how to take pictures. I began taking online courses last May and shortly after launched my photography business in order to give families high quality, professional pictures of their loved ones.
I have been able to connect with photographers all over the United States with hopes to extend Eli’s Hope. Eli’s Hope is also personal in the since that my father-in-law passed away four years ago at the age of 59 from acute myeloid leukemia (AML). My personal photography business focuses mostly on family and senior portraits, and I hope that I’m able to spread the word of Eli’s Hope through my business. It has definitely been a learning experience, mostly trying to juggle life with two kids, working part-time, homeschooling my five-year-old (I taught for eight years prior to staying home), and focusing on photography. Eli’s Hope hasn’t launched as quickly as I would have hoped, but I’m thankful this interview will help get the word out.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a photographer based out of The Woodlands focusing mostly on family and senior portraits. It’s an opportunity for me to meet new people and be creative at the same time. As a Christian, my number one goal is that people feel the love of Christ through me. I want all people to feel loved and see their beauty! Photography really gives me that opportunity! I love to have fun and laugh with my clients. The absolute best is when I get a text from a client right after taking pictures that they had a lot of FUN taking their family portraits.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
The best advice I can give is to join Facebook groups with others in your industry. The Facebook groups I am a part of have been so supportive, never competitive, and always uplifting and encouraging.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am very active on social media-mostly Instagram @priscillabearden- and that is a great place to connect with me or Eli’s Hope, and contact if you would like pictures. I also recently launched my new website at priscillabearden.com that I feel really shows my personality. The best way people can support my work is through word of mouth and also giving shout-outs on social media when posting their pictures. I always appreciate and cherish the kind words clients share with me, friends and social media. I re-read comments, texts, emails, etc. because they mean so much to me. I truly value my clients or my “families” as I like to call them!
