Today we’d like to introduce you to Priya Kurup.
Priya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from the South, but I spent most of my life on the East Coast. I have a Business degree from American University in D.C., while I was there, I interned on the Capitol Hill, the United Nations and the White House.
I then moved to New York City and received my Masters in Publishing from New York University. For many years, I worked for PEOPLE magazine, then I decided to move to Houston. Houston is where I met my husband, and we have been married for over seven years now, with one daughter whom just turned 1!
I now manage a team of agents for the Randle Team, and I am a Realtor as well for RE/MAX Fine Properties, here in Sugar Land, TX. I look forward to helping clients find their dream home, just like I found mine in Riverstone, I also specialize in residential and commercial real estate.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a Realtor is definitely a struggle when you first get started, especially when you are not from the area. I had to build a client base, generate leads, all on my own.
You also only get paid at the end of a sale, so it is not a steady pay check, nor do you get benefits or vacation time.
However, the upside is that there is no income limitation, you are in charge of how much you make. Once you establish what works for you, real estate gets much easier, I am coming up on my 4th year of being licensed here in Texas.

MY MISSION STATEMENT:
My philosophy is simple: clients come first. I pledge to be in constant communication with my clients, keeping them fully informed throughout the entire buying or selling process. I believe that if you’re not left with an amazing experience, I haven’t done my job. I don’t measure success through achievements or awards but through the satisfaction of my clients.
What were you like growing up?
My parents were immigrants, so we were first-generation Indian American, luckily I had a sister only 16 months younger than me so we experienced a lot of things together.
My parents were both physicians, whom worked all the time, so I kind of feel like we raised each other. We were lucky, we lived in a nice place and went to a good school, and always had the support of our community to make sure that would continue to contribute to society.
Growing up, we lived in a small town in Mississippi, so I had no idea that this big world existed outside of our city. But I was exposed to a lot, culturally, and my mom always put us in every activity possible. From ballet to volleyball, there was never a dull moment, we were always participating in a concert recital or a talent show.
So I would say I was an extrovert, from the start, and a feminist as that is definitely whom my mom is and still is! She always wanted us to stand up on our own. No matter the cost.
