Meet Rachel Andres of Thairapy Salon and Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Andres.

Rachel was born and raised in Houston. As friends and family can attest, there was never a day she didn’t love the hair, playing, twisting, styling and restyling her own and those closest to her. It came as no surprise then when she pursued Cosmetology, completing her certification in 1995. In 2002, she followed through on another long-time interest when she received a BA in Psychology from Texas State University (then called Southwest Texas State).

Rachel learned the art of blow drying and styling under a tough French hairdresser. Later, she joined Visible Changes, where the majority of her cutting training took place. There she was nominated for the coveted “Rising Star” award, recognizing her as a top performer. She began conception of Thairapy in 2003 with the burning desire to start her own business. Did so in 2005. Her passion? To create something special in the community while providing a great work environment for her fellow beauty technicians.

Rachel’s mission at Thairapy is to offer customers that “WOW” beauty experience through great technical ability and tips and tricks of the trade. She manages/trains the staff making sure clients come first as well as offering a gift boutique to receive the ultimate experience while at Thairapy. Customers’ ideas and preferences are a top priority; the magic happens when the staff infuses their expertise with their customers’ thoughts to arrive at the best solution.

Rachel’s signature touch is mixing pure essential oils, from scratch, for use in both the salon and spa. A few of the natural ingredients used in her Scalp and Hair Oil include essential oils such as Jojoba, Lavender, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, and more. Currently, she is working on Thairapy’s very own product line, Thairapy — the hair essentials such as Shampoo, Conditioner and the like. Ultimately, to raise money and awareness for children’s charities and donate a portion of the proceeds.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say, not. To strive and reach for your dreams it takes a whole lot (as the saying goes) of blood, sweat and tears. There are plenty of struggles, but one in particular that stands out would be higher turnover, especially in our industry.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Thairapy Salon and Spa – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a salon and spa specializing in personalized treatments. Every offering is at your service. First, we begin with a consultation, assessing your hair type, face shape and lifestyle to determine the right direction to follow. Next, we utilize the appropriate products for you — from extra volume to deep conditioning to taming frizz. Then, we put our knowledge of you to work.

The end result is a cut, color, and/or style that best flatters your face shape, complexion and schedule. Again, we work for you. Give us direction and requests, or let us drive the creative process to arrive at a new style — it’s all up to you. We want you to be thrilled with our services beyond simply the day of. In fact, we will happily re-address any area you feel was less than perfect within a week of your appointment.

We are most proud of having staff that has been with us for over 12 years and that we are giving back to our community by supporting a wonderful cause called Wigs for Kids. We offer a discounted haircut for those interested in cutting 12 inches or more to donate to children in need.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are working on Thairapy’s very own signature product line, Thairapy — the needed hair essentials such as Shampoo, Conditioner and the like. Ultimately, to raise money and awareness for children’s charities and donate a portion of the proceeds. Stay tuned and connected via social media (#thairapysession) for more to come!
