Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Rowe.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I actually started with traveling museum exhibitions. I had moved back to Houston from Europe and was looking for a job when the bad economy got much worse – 9/11, the Enron collapse, etc. I had been interviewing within my family network and met with Clear Channel Entertainment, but they were having layoffs and not hiring. They called me the next week to tell me the Marketing VP for an Exhibitions division out of San Antonio would be driving through town, and I’d have 3 minutes in the Lobby with him. He was wearing a Star of David and saw my cross necklace: “Are you catholic?” he asked. When I replied affirmatively, he asked me to come to meet the head of his division in San Antonio the next week. They were preparing to launch a tour of the largest Vatican exhibition ever and thought they needed a catholic to do the marketing outreach. I was hired, and the rest is history for that career. With the economic collapse in ’08, many of the companies I worked for were consolidated or made obsolete – the entertainment industry got very tight, and the exhibitions were the least lucrative of the entire Live Entertainment space. All of my colleagues from that world have had to diversify to survive.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It is a constant struggle being a sole proprietor and branching out into different industries in a digital, social media-driven world for a person who thought they were established before social media and is more comfortable behind the camera. I prefer spending every moment I have driving results for my clients, not myself, but if I was my client, I’d tell them they must have a larger digital presence and constantly promote themselves. But that’s so against my grain.
Please tell us about your work.
