Today we’d like to introduce you to Rajani Katta.
Rajani, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As an author, I’m all about good food and glowing skin. I’m a board-certified dermatologist and was a professor of dermatology at the Baylor College of Medicine for 17 years. I have a passion for education and have written a total of seven books.
As a dermatologist, I’m often asked about the link between our diet and our skin health. (I’ve also seen a lot of misconceptions and outright biased information on the Internet.)
Although I’ve written and lectured extensively on this topic to physicians, I realized that the information wasn’t necessarily reaching my patients. That’s what really became my motivation for writing my latest book “Glow: The Dermatologist’s Guide to a Whole Foods Younger Skin Diet.”
My mission is to make sure that people know about the recommendations that are supported by strong scientific research, which is why I wrote this book and started my website www.SkinAndDiet.com. I also serve on the Media Expert Team of the American Academy of Dermatology, and I’m focused on spreading the word about evidence-based skin advice.
Of course, I also love food! I’m getting my certification in culinary medicine, which focuses on the intersection of good food and good nutrition. That’s my passion and my mission: good food and glowing skin!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been more of a winding road. I was a full-time medical school faculty member, which meant a lot of time taking care of patients, along with teaching responsibilities. I later started my own private practice. Add in my family with two children, and that doesn’t leave a lot of time for writing books.
But while it hasn’t been a straight path, I have found that each of my projects has taught me certain vital skills that have helped somewhere further along the road.
One of the biggest lessons was learning how to take complex scientific principles and break them down so that they’re easier to comprehend-that skill really helped when writing my book on skin and diet.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rajani Katta MD – what should we know?
As an author, I’m known for being able to break down complex information and translate it into easy-to-understand and easy-to-take-action-on recommendations.
Right now I’m focused on the intersection of skin and diet. In my writing, I highlight evidence-based information but work hard to make it easy to understand and interesting.
I like to really focus on the foods that form a healthy skin diet, and one of the ways I do that is by highlighting skin-saving foods and recipes.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Persistence; in any project or mission, there are always going to be obstacles, delays, and a much longer path than expected. I credit my success to my persistence. I’m all about making steady progress, even if some months (or years!) it’s slower than I would like.
