Today we’d like to introduce you to Ra’Keisha Holman-Owens.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ra’Keisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I originally dedicated my life to a career in social for at rush kids. After being diagnosed with lupus and both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in 2015, I decided to put my career on pause. During that time, I was requested to do some small event decor based on pictures from my social media pages that displayed parties that I’d don for family and friends.
From there, I decided to start my own event and wedding planning business Before the Cake Events. Last year right before Hurricane Harvey devastated the community where I live (Dickinson), I developed an online apparel store Sassy Class Custom Designed Gifts and Apparel. We do custom shirts, screen printing, embroidery, wood cut pieces, door hangers, hats, wine glasses, etching, yard signs and anything that you need to be customized.
We do a lot of orders for teachers and school staff who want to add a touch chic to their classrooms. Lastly, in November of 2017, I began hosting my own radio show The Libra Lounge w/Keisha on Vinyl Draught Radio. TLL is all about juicy celebrity news and gossip, the latest trends, weight and fitness, sex, relationships, and anything that I can talk and laugh about with my guest.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every new adventure surely isn’t a smooth ride. I’ve had pictures of my work stolen by another event planner and put on her website as her work. I’ve been harassed by another apparel company who didn’t want me to sell in the state of Texas, there’s bad decisions.
I’ve made just from being a first-time business owner, and of course, running 3 businesses and balancing being a wife, mom of a teenager, and of course living with lupus. There are days I’m just a hot mess lol but I keep on trucking. I take every little bump as a lesson learned.

Before the Cake Events is my first business baby and love. We specialize in events and weddings where we offer packages that can be tailored to our client’s needs and budgets. Customization is our specialty, and we are one of the few event companies that happily serves the LGBTQ community and we have our own wedding officiants who cater to all couples regardless of creed or sexuality.
Sassy Class isn’t just your regular apparel store, I’m a firm believer in stepping outside of the box and we add a little bit of pizazz in all of our orders rather it’s designing shirts for a school club, marathon, bridal shower etc. Recently, we have become the go-to boutique for teachers and nurses looking to add sparkle and customization to their wardrobe. The Libra Lounge radio show which cake be heard every Wednesday morning at 10:00 on www.vinyldraughtradio.com is an hour of taking a break to sit back and laugh.
